Primary Purpose

The Energy Management Helper is responsible for performing and providing additional support of maintaining, repairing, and installing heating and air conditioning control systems and equipment throughout the district. Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all HVAC systems in district facilities.

Qualifications

Education/Certification

• High school diploma or GED
• Maintain valid Texas Driver's License required and have a good driving record
• HVAC Technician certification preferred
• EPA Universal Certificate for Refrigerant Recovery and Use
• Certification from Building Automation Controls Company
• Must have ability to clear a criminal background check along with a drug test administered upon employment and be subject to random drug testing

Special Knowledge/Skills

• Strong knowledge using computers and I-Pad
• Knowledge of HVAC repairs, maintenance, and installation techniques
• Knowledge of chilled and hot water air conditioning systems
• Knowledge of cooling towers and condenser water systems
• Knowledge of the control and operation of Chillers, Boilers, and Cooling Towers
• Knowledge of using Building Automation Controls
• Skill using hand and power tools and operating a lift/hoist and forklift
• Skill in calibrating DDC Thermostats
• Skill in diagnosing mechanical problems and having the correct repairs performed
• Skill in comprehending and evaluating facts and problems associated with maintenance and repair; exercising sound judgment; and taking decisive and timely action in accordance with standard operating procedures
• Skill in providing, utilizing, and understanding complex and technical information and explaining specifications and mechanical situations.
• Skill in gathering/organizing/analyzing/interpreting data, utilizing data, utilizing various techniques, applying concepts to assist in formulating conclusions and developing recommendations and solutions
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations
• Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and coordinate multiple projects to meet specific deadlines

Experience

• HVAC field and/or HVAC Control Systems and/or Building Automation along with chilled water experience preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties

1. Diagnose and repair malfunctions in various types of heating and air conditioning systems, including: DX, rooftop equipment, VFD, energy management controls, cooling towers and chilled/hot water A/C systems.

2. Install new heating and air conditioning systems and components.

3. Repair, replace, or calibrate controls, thermostats, motors, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring (DDC).

4. Wire and connect motors, compressors, temperature controls, and humidity controls according to wiring schematics.

5. Install and replace actuators and water valves for HVAC.

6. Assist energy manager to complete energy conservation surveys to realize the most efficient, cost-effective use of HVAC energy. Work with Energy Management to calibrate sensors.

7. Receive and complete work orders within District guidelines and write legibly.

8. Maintain accurate records on material and labor used and turn in to supervisor on a daily basis.

9. Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials.

10. Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean.

11. Work and communicate with building principals and supervisors to complete projects.

12. Detect needed repairs on equipment following established inspection procedures.

13. Respond to emergency calls as needed.

14. Ability to change work schedules/shifts and work weekends and holidays when necessary; work more than 8 hours a day when required.

15. Ability to braze and solder copper pipe/tubing.

16. Ability to communicate effectively and work with other trades.

17. Be available for after hour emergencies/demands.

18. Ability to use a computer and operate HVAC controls software.

19. Ability to troubleshoot DDC controls.

Safety

1. Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.

2. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.

3. Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition.

4. Must adhere to all guidelines set forth on MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) when handling chemicals.

5. Must wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) when performing any task which could cause injury or illness.

6. Take necessary action immediately and report any condition which could cause injury or illness.

7. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing, etc.

8. Must wear district issued uniform while at work.

Records, Reports, and Correspondence

1. Comply with all Board policies and employee handbook policies are followed.

2. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents as required.

3. Attend training on various software/hardware that is being supported by Humble ISD and maintain a working knowledge of the same.
