RN - Psych Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Psychiatric Unit - Pediatric Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 7A-7P Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 1 year of Behavioral Health nursing experience required. Pediatric Behavioral Health experience preferred. License: State License required Certifications: BLS Must-Have: De-escalation experience, experience with physical restraints, medication administration, ability to run group sessions, and documentation skills. Description:ASAP start needed. Simplified interviews followed by manager approval. Must be willing to float between adult and pediatric units as needed. The facility is a free-standing acute inpatient facility with a contracted emergency room nearby. All patients are medically cleared before admission. Involuntary and voluntary admissions are accepted. Patients range in age from 5 to 18 years old for pediatrics and 18 years and older for adults. Common pediatric diagnoses include eating disorders, depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, and gender dysphoria. Adult patients typically present with schizophrenia, major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, as well as eating disorders, suicidal ideation, and anxiety. The facility does not accommodate forensic patients or inmates and is secure but not to the extent of holding patients under arrest. Seclusion rooms are utilized when necessary. Occasionally, patients with substance use disorders may be seen, but they must be medically cleared. The facility provides traditional medical and psychiatric care in addition to specialized therapies such as pet therapy, group sessions, and community gardens. Patient ratios are RN: Day 1:5-6; Night 1:13 with resource support including Nursing support. Psych Techs ratio for Pediatrics: Day 6; Night 2. Adult Psych Techs ratio: Day 2; Night 2. Support on the unit includes a Director of Nursing, Nurse Manager, and House Administrator available overnight and on weekends. The Charge nurse may have a patient assignment. Contracted phlebotomist is available for lab draws. Nurse Practitioner is on-site until 4 PM and then on call overnight. Psychiatrists conduct daily rounds and are on call. Occupational Therapists are available from 8 AM to 4:30 PM, 7 days per week. Security is present but does not respond to patient escalations; staff from all units, including Techs and Nurses, handle escalations. Charting is conducted using Cerner. Travelers will be required to float between all units, adult and pediatric. If uncomfortable floating to pediatrics, manager approval is needed. Weekend rotation is every other Saturday and Sunday. Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed, and there is no on-call requirement. Holiday work is expected in rotation. Self-scheduling will allow travelers to sign up for preferred shifts, with manager/scheduler reviewing to ensure coverage. Travelers will be informed when it's time to sign up for shifts. Those who do not sign up during that timeframe will be automatically assigned vacant shifts. Scrub colors are any solid color, provided they are professional. Heavy snow conditions are expected during winter months. In the event of a patient escalation, there is a code leader who assigns roles to staff while de-escalating the patient. Travelers may function as the code leader and are encouraged to seek additional practice with de-escalation if needed. Scenario-based training is conducted every other week for practice.
