Phlebotomy Technician

Pay Range: $20.02hr - $21.20hr

Requirement/Must Have:

• Minimum of 6 months’ work experience performing venipunctures in a fast paced lab or hospital setting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Skilled with hard stick geriatric patients.
• Comfortable working alone.
• Skilled with specimen processing.

Responsibilities:

• Assist in performing various assigned duties, trouble shooting, training and making work flow recommendations.
• Perform blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, and updating patient information.
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
• Explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection in a clear and courteous manner.
• Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and ensure full understanding of physician orders.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
• Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
• Package specimens for transport.
• Store specimen samples according to required temperature and appropriate collection containers to maintain specimen integrity.
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department trainings.
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
