Looking for mechanically minded Metrologist/Supervisor to join our Field Service team.

Superior Machine Company of South Carolina is seeking a Metrologist / Field Service Supervisor responsible for performing precision metrology and alignment work while supervising field service crews during the installation, repair, and maintenance of industrial equipment.

This position serves as the lead technical specialist on job sites, ensuring that all critical measurements, alignments, and equipment installations meet required tolerances and engineering specifications while utilizing a total station, FARO, etc. The role also oversees field personnel to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements.

This is a traveling/hands on position. Company truck, laptop, and cell phone are provided.

Primary Responsibilities

Metrology & Precision Measurement

• Perform precision measurement and alignment of industrial equipment during installation and repair activities.
• Utilize metrology equipment such as laser alignment systems, laser trackers, optical instruments, machinist levels, dial indicators, and precision measuring tools.
• Establish equipment centerlines, verify elevations, and ensure proper alignment of machinery and structural components.
• Verify installations meet engineering drawings, tolerances, and specifications.
• Provide technical guidance to crews regarding measurements and alignment requirements.

Field Service Supervision

• Supervise field service crews performing equipment installation, mechanical repairs, and maintenance work.
• Coordinate daily work activities and assign tasks to field personnel.
• Ensure work is executed safely and efficiently while maintaining company quality standards.
• Provide hands-on leadership and technical direction during field operations.
• Monitor job progress and coordinate with project management.

Job Site Coordination

• Review drawings and job scope prior to work beginning.
• Lead job site safety meetings and enforce safety procedures.
• Communicate with plant personnel, contractors, and management regarding job progress.
• Assist in planning work sequences for installations and repairs.

Documentation & Reporting

• Record measurement data, alignment results, and inspection findings.
• Prepare daily field reports and provide updates to project management.
• Document final equipment alignment and tolerances upon project completion.

Qualifications

• Strong experience with precision measurement and industrial metrology.
• Experience performing equipment alignment and installation in heavy industrial environments.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and tolerances.
• Experience supervising or leading field service crews.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability.
• Willingness to travel and work in industrial plant environments.
• Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, Excel, and 360)
