RESEARCH DATA SPECIALIST III

Position Overview Under the direction of the Education Research and Evaluation Administrator I of the Data Visualization and Insight Office, the Research Data Specialist III (RDS III) leads extraction, compilation, and analysis of data from various collection systems and the department's data warehouse. The RDS III processes and analyzes TK‑12 educational data, designs and conducts complex research to inform policy makers and administration within a 30‑day time frame. The role synthesizes and interprets information to develop novel insights, performs data quality checks, prepares visualizations for reports, and makes recommendations to support decision making. The RDS III collaborates with internal and external staff and produces one‑time, short‑term, and long‑term reports supporting high‑priority initiatives. Responsibilities Extract, compile, and analyze data from multiple data collection systems and the data warehouse. Process and analyze TK‑12 educational data and design research studies to meet policy‑making needs within a 30‑day time frame. Synthesize data, perform quality checks, and prepare visualizations featured in reports and data narratives. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders and produce one‑time, short‑term, and long‑term reports. Act as a senior subject‑matter expert on data, translating findings into actionable insights. Coordinate project timelines, manage multiple projects, and adapt to changing priorities. Minimum Requirements Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications listed in the Classification Specification for the Research Data Specialist III classification. Desirable Qualifications Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, T‑SQL Server, Visual Studio, Excel, PowerBI, and statistical software such as SAS or SPSS. Experience developing complex software applications using SQL, SAS, and/or web‑based scripting languages. Strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to work collegially in teams, independently, and with diverse stakeholders on educationally sensitive issues. Strong problem‑solving and creative solution development skills, and the ability to adapt to changing priorities. Integrity, initiative, dependability, and good judgment.
