PERIOPERATIVE SCHEDULER

The Square at Norwin 8775 Norwin Ave Irwin, PA 15642, USA Responsibilities Answers calls quickly and professionally. Receives, files, and distributes electronic intake. Ensures/assigns quick surgery account with correct date of service prior to placing onto OR schedule. Schedules surgeries appropriately using tools available. Correct identification of patient, procedure, laterality, and surgeon. Contacts operating room to address special circumstances for operating room schedule. Attach correct surgeon specific preference card to scheduled case. Verifies day prior surgery schedule (surgery, laterality, anesthesia type, and surgeon). Ensures communication with all customers. Communicates with departments for add‑on cases and cancellations for the same/next business day. Communicates with surgeon offices concerning scheduling issues. Maintains a good working relationship with both the department and other departments including surgeon offices. Interacts professionally with surgeon/surgeon office and all members of the health care team. Takes responsibility for asking for assistance when required. Informs supervisor, manager, or director of problematic situations and demonstrates ability to support recommendations. Actively participates in the anesthesia/OR scheduling daily huddle. Registration of patients that present for procedures at Surgery center locations (applies only to staff physically located at the surgery entry locations). Other duties as assigned. Specialty Functions Contribute to the delivery of direct and indirect patient care by: Tracking block release for surgeons. Scheduling C‑sections for Obstetric physicians based on established guidelines. Working with anesthesia department for coordination of off‑site anesthesia‑required procedures. Assisting verification staff with providing patient information (intake form) when needed. Acting as a resource for surgeon’s office with questions related to the ability to view/utilize OR schedule. Required Qualifications High School Diploma, GED or Higher Level of Education. Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and knowledge of legal aspects and liability of nursing practice. Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience. Preferred Qualifications Medical Terminology OR experience; RN or Surgical Technician. License, Certification & Clearances Act 34‑PA Criminal Record Check from the PA State Police system. Supervisory Responsibilities This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department. Position Type / Expected Hours of Work Incumbents will be scheduled based on operational need (rotate shifts, standby, on‑call, etc.). Travel may be expected locally between Independence Health locations. Safety Requirements Effective March 2020 or during pandemic: goggles, face shield and mask are required according to CDC guidelines. Physical Demands Essential physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 50 pounds (with assistance for heavier loads), to stand, walk and climb ladders for extended periods, to reach above shoulder level, to drive or operate a vehicle, and to manipulate medical equipment using hands and arms. Additional requirements include the use of protective equipment (respirator, eye, hearing, hand, body and feet protection), use of vibrating tools, handling of hazardous materials (solvents, paints, dust, cytotoxic substances, mist, laser), and potential on‑call or overtime work.
