Construction Inspector I or II - North Tarrant Area Office

Construction Inspector I / II Overview: Inspects construction methods and workmanship on roadways, bridges, traffic signals, airports, and related structures to ensure compliance with plans and specifications. Acts as consultant on work progress and problem resolution and reports to a licensed professional engineer with full approval authority. The position may be the sole inspector on a project or support larger teams on complex or statewide projects. Responsibilities Inspects ongoing construction work and verifies compliance with plans and specifications. Calculates payments due to contractors for completed work. Consults with project engineers, resident project representatives, and contractors’ superintendents on progress and construction problems; reviews equipment utilization data and time/cost estimates. Observes construction methods, workmanship, and safety practices. Performs materials tests and manufacturing process inspections at fabrication sites when required. Administers problem calls, prepares and reviews correspondence, and conducts project reviews. Prepares monthly and final cost estimates and serves as lead worker or project leader for the II level. Performs other responsibilities as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Education: High school graduate or equivalent in general high school studies. Experience: Construction Inspector I: No prior experience required. Related college education or technical training may be substituted on a year‐per‐year basis. Construction Inspector II: At least 1 year of construction, construction inspection, engineering support, maintenance and repairs, or materials/process inspection experience. Licenses and Certifications Safety Impact Certificate Valid driver’s license (state vehicle required) Physical Requirements Work in indoor and outdoor environments; stand for prolonged periods. Walk, balance, crouch on varied surfaces; travel between work sites. Conditions of Employment Pre‑employment physical examination required. Must pass a drug test; random drug testing applies. Salary: Construction Inspector I – B18: $45,521 – $71,055 Construction Inspector II – B19: $48,244 – $76,028.
