Pharmacy Resident
Education: Resident pharmacists are graduates or candidates for graduation of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited Doctor of Pharmacy or BS Pharmacy degree program. All pharmacy residents should be fully licensed in the state of Arkansas by their start date. Failure to become licensed prior to or within 90 days of the start of the residency will result in dismissal from the program.
Training and Experience: Previous hospital experience as an intern or pharmacist is preferred but not required. Understanding of overall pharmacy operations. Requires initiative, good character and the ability to assume responsibilities.
Job Knowledge: Understanding the functions required to provide pharmaceuticals to inpatient and outpatient use. Delivers appropriate care to patients from neonatal through geriatrics with regards to age specific considerations (see attached sheet). Stays current by various methods, which may include professional journals, in-services and professional meetings. Utilizes drug information to improve the quality of care for our patients.
Safety Sensitive: YES In the interest of protecting the health and safety of all patients, associates, and guests, Unity Health has classified some positions as "safety sensitive." A "safety sensitive" position is any job position in which impaired performance could result in harm to the health and/or safety of self or others. Any associate that is actively engaged in the use of medical marijuana, even if in possession of a valid medical marijuana card, will be excluded from employment in a "safety sensitive" position.
Overview: The pharmacy resident will participate in 11 monthly and 3 longitudinal learning experiences related to the practice of pharmacy under the supervision of a qualified preceptor. Commitment will begin in mid-June and end at the end of June the following year. Required and elective rotations are selected by the resident after discussions with the RPD and will be based on the resident's short and long-term goals which are addressed and updated with in-person discussion on a quarterly basis. Strictly complies with all HIPAA laws and guidelines. All other duties as outlined and/or required.
Responsibilities: Responsible for adhering to all pharmacy policies and procedures throughout the hospital. Assumes the role of Pharmacist when assigned. Provide and/or coordinate clinical pharmacy services as ordered by physicians or per pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee approved programs. Supervises the technicians in daily functions allowed by the State Board of Pharmacy. Provides drug information to physicians and other hospital personnel. Compounds and dispenses medications needed for inpatient, employee and outpatient services. Prepares and properly labels intravenous solutions. Reviews physician orders for drug interactions and any possible dosage errors. Assists in the purchase of supplies. Prepares and maintains records and performs related work as required. Duty hours are limited to 80 hours per week, averaged over a four-week period, inclusive of all in-house call activities and all moonlighting. Residents should have 10 ours free of duty between scheduled duty and must have at a minimum of 8 hours between scheduled duty periods.
