About the Role:

The Aquatics Instructor plays a vital role in promoting water safety, swimming skills, and aquatic fitness among individuals of all ages and skill levels. This position is responsible for delivering structured swimming lessons, water safety education, and aquatic exercise programs that foster confidence and competence in the water. The instructor will create a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages participants to achieve their personal goals while ensuring their safety at all times. By assessing individual skill levels and tailoring instruction accordingly, the Aquatics Instructor helps reduce the risk of water-related accidents and supports community health and wellness initiatives. Ultimately, this role contributes to building strong swimming foundations and lifelong aquatic skills that enhance participants' enjoyment and safety in aquatic environments.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current certification in American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) or equivalent recognized swimming instructor certification.
  • Valid CPR, AED, and First Aid certification.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in swimming and water safety skills.
  • Experience teaching swimming lessons or aquatic programs to various age groups.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and provide clear instruction in English.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Additional certifications such as Lifeguard Training, Swim Coach Certification, or Aquatic Fitness Instructor credentials.
  • Experience working with individuals with special needs or disabilities in an aquatic setting.
  • Bilingual abilities to support diverse community populations.
  • Background in physical education, kinesiology, or related fields.
  • Familiarity with aquatic facility operations and maintenance.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare, and conduct swimming lessons and aquatic programs for diverse groups, including children, adults, and seniors.
  • Demonstrate proper swimming techniques and water safety practices while providing clear, constructive feedback to participants.
  • Monitor participants closely during lessons to ensure safety and intervene promptly in case of emergencies or unsafe behavior.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, progress, and certifications for all participants.
  • Collaborate with facility staff to ensure pool cleanliness, proper equipment maintenance, and compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Provide first aid and emergency response as needed, adhering to established protocols and guidelines.
  • Engage with participants and their families to encourage continued participation and promote aquatic programs.

The Aquatics Instructor utilizes strong communication skills daily to clearly convey swimming techniques and safety instructions to participants of varying ages and abilities. Instructional skills are essential for adapting lesson plans to meet individual learning needs and to foster a supportive and motivating environment. Safety awareness and vigilance are critical, as the instructor must constantly monitor the pool area and respond swiftly to any emergencies. Organizational skills are employed to maintain detailed records of participant progress and certification statuses, ensuring compliance with program standards. Additionally, interpersonal skills help build trust and rapport with participants and their families, encouraging ongoing engagement and positive aquatic experiences.

Base rate is $22.50 + Commission
