Security Officer

Under the supervision of the Security Coordinator, the Library Security Officer helps maintain a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for patrons, staff, and visitors. The officer patrols the library and surrounding property, monitors compliance with library policies, responds to incidents and emergencies, de-escalates conflicts, and prepares incident reports. Patrol the library and surrounding property. Monitor activity and support compliance with library policies. Respond professionally to incidents, emergencies, and patron concerns. Use sound judgment and de-escalation techniques during difficult situations. Report safety hazards, suspicious activity, and security concerns to the Security Coordinator and Manager on Duty. Prepare accurate and timely incident reports. Provide security support during daily operations, programs, and special events. Maintain confidentiality and follow all library and departmental procedures. Perform other security-related duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Security, public safety, or related experience preferred. Strong communication, observation, and conflict-resolution skills. Ability to remain calm, firm, and professional in stressful situations. Ability to make sound decisions and prepare clear written reports. Ability to work cooperatively with staff and serve people from diverse backgrounds. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
