National General Adjuster

Sedgwick Claims Management Services Ltd

PRIMARY PURPOSE To handle losses or claims nationally regardless of size, including having the ability to address any complex adjustment issue and any medium sized and relatively complex National Account. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES Examine insurance policies, claims, and other records to determine insurance coverage. Administer and reconcile complex catastrophic property claims. Interview, phone, or correspond with claimants and witnesses regarding the claim. Consult police and hospital records; inspect property damage to determine extent of company’s liability and varying methods of investigation according to type of insurance. Estimate cost of repair, replacement, or compensation. Prepare report of findings and negotiate settlement with claimant. Recommend litigation to the legal department when settlement cannot be negotiated. Attend litigation hearings. Revise case reserves in assigned claims files to cover probable costs. Prepare loss experience reports to help determine profitability and calculate adequate future rates. Interact with excess carrier to determine coverages, excess insurance levels, and potential reimbursements. ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES Perform other duties as assigned. Travel as required. QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred. Must have earned the IIA‑AIC designation and be actively pursuing another professional insurance designation. Five (5) years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required. SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE Strong oral and written communication, including presentation skills. PC literate, including Microsoft Office products. Strong customer service skills. Attention to detail and accuracy. Good time management and organizational skills. Ability to work independently or in a team environment. Ability to meet or exceed performance expectations. WORK ENVIRONMENT When applicable and appropriate, consideration will be given to reasonable accommodations. The role may involve mental, physical, and auditory/visual demands such as clear conceptual thinking, judgment, discretion, handling stress, meeting deadlines; standing/walking for long periods; kneeling, squatting, bending; working outdoors in hot/cold weather; climbing, crawling, stooping, kneeling, reaching/working overhead; lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds; pushing/pulling up to 100 pounds; driving up to 4 hours per day; using manual dexterity; hearing, vision and speaking.
