Pay Rate: $71.20 /hr. on W2
Job Overview
We are seeking a Senior Optical Engineer to support a new ophthalmic medical device development program and lead optical engineering activities for a second prototype build.
The ideal candidate will have strong hands‑on experience in optical design, optical testing, optomechanical design, and product development from prototype through manufacturing handoff .
Key Responsibilities
- Lead optical engineering activities for prototype development and testing.
- Design and develop optical, imaging, machine vision, light delivery, and illumination systems .
- Perform optical design and analysis using Zemax .
- Develop test fixtures, production tooling, and precision alignment fixtures .
- Develop testing procedures, work instructions, and verification & validation protocols .
- Perform optical characterization including MTF, beam profiling, radiometry/photometry, and interferometry .
- Troubleshoot complex optical and optomechanical issues.
- Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, software, research, quality, and manufacturing teams.
- Provide technical guidance to optical technicians and other engineering team members.
- Ensure development activities follow medical device design controls and regulatory requirements .
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, Biomedical Engineering, Photonics, or related STEM field .
- 5+ years of optical engineering or photonics experience .
- Strong experience with optical design, analysis, and testing .
- Experience taking products from prototype through manufacturing handoff .
- Proficiency with Zemax .
- Experience with SolidWorks/CAD strongly preferred.
- Experience with optomechanical design, tooling, and test fixtures .
- Familiarity with medical device design controls, FDA QSR, and ISO 13485 .
- Strong communication, problem‑solving, and cross‑functional collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal guidance.
