Part-Time

General Purpose: Administer non-injected prescription medications as prescribed by a physician to the Assisted Living residents of Mathison Retirement Community.

Essential Job Functions:

1. Assist those residents whose physician has determined a need for assistance with taking medications as documented on the AHCA 1823.
2. The Med Tech may assist a resident with the following medications as defined in the Florida Statute Section 419.256, legend and over-the-counter oral dosage forms, topical dosage forms and topical ophthalmic, otic, and nasal dosage forms including solutions, suspensions, sprays and inhalers.
3. The Med Tech will adhere to the following procedures for assisting with self-administered medications:
4. Take the medication, in its previously dispensed, properly labeled container, from where it is stored (med cart or refrigerator), and bring it to the resident;
5. In the presence of the resident, reading the label, opening the container, removing a prescribed amount of medication from the container, and closing the container;
6. Placing an oral dosage in the resident's hand or placing the dosage in another container and helping the resident by lifting the container to his or her mouth;
7. Apply topical medications, as prescribed, if applicable;
8. Return all medication containers to the proper storage (med cart or refrigerator)
9. Record in the electronic medical record system when a resident received assistance with self-administered medications
10. Report to the LPN on duty any prescriptions that need to be refilled:
11. Allow at least a three day lead time to acquire refills
12. Allow at least seven days lead time if a new prescription is needed from the resident's physician

Qualifications:

1. Must be a Nursing Assistant in good standing
2. Complete the four (4) hour training administered by a Certified Training Professional following the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) guidelines
3. Follow explicit guidelines for ability and willingness to perform all position responsibilities adequately
4. Ability and willingness to follow all policies and procedures
