Diesel Service Technician

Pay or shift range: $55,000 to $100,000 USD. This is an estimated range for this position. Final offers are based on various factors, including skill set, experience, location, qualifications and other job-related reasons. Performs work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards. Diagnoses cause of any malfunction and performs repair. Communicates with parts department to obtain needed parts. Saves and tags parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer. Examines assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended. Communicates with service advisor and foreman immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time. Documents all work performed and recommended on the repair order. Road tests vehicles when required. Participates in manufacturer-sponsored training programs, schools, and events. Keeps abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins. Supervises work of any apprentice technicians as assigned. Reports machinery defects or malfunctions to the foreman. Ensures that customers’ vehicle is kept clean. Notifies service advisor/foreman immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle. Keeps shop area neat and clean. Maintains and is accountable for all dealership-owned tools and manuals. Returns them to the proper place and in the same condition as when they were received. Understands, keeps abreast of and complies with federal, state and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know etc. Operates all tools and equipment in a safe manner. Reports any safety issues immediately to management. Other tasks as assigned. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience Two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Brakes Certification for Medium/Heavy Truck – Preferred Diesel Engines Certification for Medium/Heavy Truck – Preferred Drive Train Certification for Eaton and Meritor – Preferred Electrical/Electronic Systems Certification for Medium/Heavy Truck – Preferred Heating and Air Conditioning Certification for Commercial Truck – Preferred Manual Drive Train and Axle Certification for Auto/Light Truck – Preferred State Emission Certification – Preferred State Vehicle Inspector Certification – Preferred Paccar MX Certification – Preferred Cummins Engine Certification on ISB, ISC & ISX 2150 through 2350 – Preferred Preventive Maintenance Inspection Certification for Medium/Heavy Truck – Preferred Suspension and Steering Certification for Medium/Heavy Truck - Preferred Language Skills Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, or industry regulations. Mathematical Skills Ability to add and subtract two‑digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to read a Multi‑Meter. Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Qualifications Experience Preferred 1‑2 years: Related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
