Every treatment plan waits on a diagnosis someone is willing to stand behind. In this role you will turn tissue, cytology, and laboratory evidence into clear, timely answers that change what clinicians do next. Success is not volume for its own sake. It is diagnostic accuracy, trustworthy turnaround, and reports that resolve the clinical question.
Performance Objectives

• Sign out anatomic and clinical pathology cases with documented concordance and few amended reports, so treatment decisions rest on a defensible diagnosis.
• Meet agreed turnaround for routine, priority, and frozen-section work without trading rigor for speed.
• Close ambiguous cases through the right ancillary studies, consultation, and correlation with clinical and imaging findings.
• Write reports and speak with surgeons and oncologists so the answer drives management, not just description.
• Keep the service inspection-ready through peer review, proficiency, specimen integrity, and fewer preventable errors.
• Raise the judgment of residents, fellows, or laboratory staff so case quality improves when you are not the only reader.
• Remove a recurring source of rework, delay, or unnecessary send-out cost within the first year.

Environment & Resources

You will practice in a multidisciplinary diagnostic service and report to the medical director of pathology. The lab provides a laboratory information system, histology and cytology support, pathologists' assistants, and access to subspecialty consultation. Testing and send-out choices are made with laboratory leadership against a defined budget. Frozen-section and call coverage are shared.
Essential Qualifications

• M.D. or D.O., or equivalent, with board certification or eligibility in anatomic pathology or anatomic and clinical pathology.
• Active or obtainable state medical license and eligibility for medical staff privileges.
• Independent sign-out of a general or defined subspecialty mix, on time and with a low amendment rate.
• Practical use of immunohistochemistry, molecular correlation, and synoptic reporting for that case mix.
• A record of direct clinical communication when a diagnosis changes management.
• Participation in peer review and proficiency testing, with evidence you act on the findings.
