Technical Specialist, ICU Equipment - Critical Care Institute

Description Patients with life‑threatening conditions come to the Institute for Critical Care Medicine (ICCM) at Mount Sinai in their greatest hour of need. Our team of intensive care doctors, nurses, and support staff is always available to perform life‑saving measures for patients who require the most critical care possible. The Technical Specialist performs preventive maintenance for ICU equipment/technology, troubleshoots, adjusts, calibrates medical equipment, initiates ordering of new equipment and quotes, remains up‑to‑date on device warranty, coordinates technology based on department needs, participates in IT planning, acts as liaison with internal and external IT, oversees technology usage, and assists in staff education and special projects. Responsibilities Perform periodic quality assurance tests to maximize performance and minimize hazards due to instrument breakage. Ensure conformity to the latest federal, state, city, and hospital standards; write incident reports related to instrument malfunction. Inspect and test equipment for safety and performance using test apparatus such as safety analyzer, oscilloscope, etc. Design circuits and instruments that facilitate repair and maintenance of equipment. Prior to purchase, evaluate capabilities and overall design of instruments; instruct division employees on proper use. Order and maintain sufficient supplies of replacement parts and instruments; maintain records as required by agencies and hospital. Ensure safe and effective use of medical technology, manage biomedical equipment, and provide technical support to healthcare providers. Configure department IT systems, including workstations and applications. Participate in department systems planning and development. Oversee hardware and software system support and upgrades; monitor and support anticipated future technological needs. Participate in staff, student, and volunteer education on related protocols and standards. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Technical training; bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering or related discipline preferred. Problem‑solving skills to identify issues and develop innovative, analytical solutions for complex technical challenges. Knowledge of general mechanical and hand tools. Two or more years of experience in technical support or programming/systems experience in end‑user computing applications, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
