Art Teacher

The Ulster BOCES Center for Innovative Teaching & Learning (CITL) Student-Based Programs at Anna Devine is seeking an Art Teacher for a full-time, 10-month position for the 2026-2027 school year. Experience working with elementary and/or secondary education students preferred. Appropriate NYS certification and fingerprinting required. Ulster BOCES provides programs for students ages five through twenty-one who are identified as needing specialized programs and/or supports according to their Individualized Education Program (IEP). Special Education programs are offered at Ulster BOCES sites in Port Ewen, NY and in leased classrooms in component school districts. They have been developed and offered to meet the specific needs of our students in order to assist them in realizing their potential to achieve both academically and socially. (For more information visit Select the following criteria: Area of Interest: Classroom Teacher Subject Area: Visual Arts Grade Level: Pre K-12, All Grades Title: Visual Arts Type of Certificate: Initial or Professional Certificate GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES To enhance a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth of pupils; to develop in each pupil an interest in and the ability for expressing himself creatively in visual terms, utilizing skills and techniques of artistic expression appropriate to the pupil’s interest and abilities; to develop aesthetic understandings and appreciations; to discover the develop talents of pupils in the field of art; and to establish good relationships with other staff members. SPECIFIC DUTIES Teaches knowledge and skills in art, including crafts, drawing, painting, lettering, design, commercial art, art history, and three-dimensional art to pupils, and other appropriate learning activities. Provides instruction by which pupils develop aesthetic concepts and appreciations and the ability to make qualitative judgments about art. Demonstrates techniques in activities such as drawing, painting, and modeling, using standard and teacher-prepared instructional aids. Develops instructional plans and organizes class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and working time. Provides individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of pupils with varying intellectual and artistic abilities, and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly and productive studio environment. Instructs pupils in proper care and use of tools and equipment. Organizes storage areas and controls use of materials, equipment and tools to prevent loss or abuse, and to minimize time required for distribution and collection. Evaluates each pupil’s performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understandings, and prepares progress reports. Selects and requisitions books, instructional materials, tools, instructional aids, and maintains required inventory records. Plans and presents art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit pupils’ work for the school and the community. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities. Maintains an auditable record of pupil attendance and makes daily reports of pupils absent each period. Communicates with parents and school counselors on pupil progress. Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs as required. Participates in faculty meetings and committees. Assumes other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
