General Production Worker

Job Title: Production Worker – Polyurethane Department

Job Description

This role supports the full production process in the polyurethane ("Poly") department, transforming liquid polymer into finished foam earplugs. You operate and support various stations along a manufacturing line, including equipment operation, insert preparation, kitting, inspection, and packaging, while maintaining a clean and safe work area.

Responsibilities

• Operate production equipment on the manufacturing line, including loading and unloading materials and performing basic troubleshooting to keep the line running smoothly.
• Use small hand tools at a stationary worktable to repeatedly press white plastic inserts into metal plate tooling that travels on a conveyor line, ensuring correct placement for foam earplug formation.
• Perform kitting duties at a stationary desk by removing used inserts from metal plates, cleaning inserts and bases, stacking components on carts, and supplying them back to the line for reuse.
• Inspect finished foam earplugs one by one as they exit the curing process, checking shape, hardness, softness, and overall quality against standards.
• Periodically weigh batches of earplugs (e.g., 30 pieces at a time) on a small scale to confirm that product weight remains within acceptable deviation ranges.
• As boxes at the end of the line fill, assemble new cardboard boxes, replace full boxes, tape and label completed boxes, and move them onto pallets for shipment, typically preparing around 60 boxes per shift.
• Maintain general cleanliness and organization around the work area, including regular housekeeping tasks to support safety and efficiency.
• Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of required personal protective equipment, and adhere to manufacturing line protocols and quality standards.
• Work assigned shifts and mandatory overtime as required to meet production demands, including frequent Saturday work.

Essential Skills

• Previous manufacturing experience in a production or general labor environment.
• Strong manual dexterity in both hands to perform repetitive pushing and punching of plastic inserts and other fine motor tasks throughout the shift.
• Ability to work mandatory overtime, including frequent Saturday shifts, in a high-activity manufacturing environment.
• Capability to stand for a full shift outside of scheduled breaks, with flexibility to work at both seated and standing stations as needed.
• Comfort working on an assembly line performing repetitive tasks with consistent speed and attention to detail.
• Ability to perform quality inspection tasks, including visual checks and basic weight measurements using a small scale.
• Reliability in following safety protocols and using required personal protective equipment such as steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, and hearing protection.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with production, general labor, and manufacturing operations.
• Experience in machine operation or machine operating on a production line.
• Experience working on assembly lines with multiple stations and task rotation.
• Attention to detail and ability to multitask effectively, especially in busy roles such as kitting.
• Comfort working in a cool-temperature manufacturing environment (around 65 degrees).
• Ability to label, package, and palletize finished goods accurately for shipment.

Work Environment

This position is based in a manufacturing line environment within the polyurethane department. The facility operates three Monday–Friday shifts: 1st shift from 6:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., 2nd shift from 2:45 p.m. to 11:15 p.m., and 3rd shift from 10:45 p.m. to 7:15 a.m., with the workweek for 3rd shift ending on Saturday morning. Mandatory overtime is a regular part of the schedule, with production running on most Saturdays and a particularly heavy overtime period over the next several months. The work area is cool, typically around 65 degrees, and is set up as a conveyor-based production line with both seated and standing positions, though you should be prepared to stand for the full shift aside from breaks. Steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, and hearing protection are required at all times on the floor, and employees are expected to maintain a clean, organized workspace and follow all safety and quality procedur

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of INDIANAPOLIS, IN.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $21.50/hr.
