The CT Technologist is a valued step in UPMC Imaging Career Ladder. The final candidate will be placed in the appropriate title and pay rate depending on education and experience.

Responsibilities:

• Perform CT procedures using established imaging protocols, including the administration of oral, rectal, and IV contrast media while ensuring patient safety and quality outcomes.
• Operate advanced CT imaging equipment to acquire, analyze, reconstruct, and document diagnostic images according to departmental standards.
• Utilize independent judgment to adjust scan protocols and appropriately apply ionizing radiation to obtain high-quality diagnostic studies.
• Review physician orders, assess patient history, verify patient identity using two patient identifiers, and follow universal protocol to ensure accurate and safe imaging procedures.
• Perform venipuncture and operate power injectors in accordance with departmental and manufacturer guidelines.
• Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients, explaining procedures, addressing concerns, and promoting a positive patient experience.
• Collaborate effectively with radiologists, technologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide efficient, patient-centered care.
• Maintain accurate documentation, coding, charge entry, and exam tracking through RIS and PACS/ISITE systems to ensure proper archiving and interpretation of studies.
• Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and a commitment to delivering care with dignity, respect, and compassion.

• Graduate of an ARRT-approved school of Radiologic Technology or completion of an accredited CNMT program.
• ARRT registry-eligible technologist must obtain ARRT registry within 6 months of hire date.
• CT registry must be acquired within 18 months of the date the primary registry was acquired or date of hire if primary registry is already obtained.
• CNMT graduates must obtain CNMT registry within 6 months of hire date.
• Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: ARRT registry eligible technologist must obtain ARRT registry within 6 months of hire date. CT registry must be acquired within 18 months of the date the primary registry was acquired or date of hire if primary registry is already obtained. All CT Technologist working in NY facilities performing contrast media injection are required to have received certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) and be Licensed through the New York State Department of Health. CPR or BLS Required. CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire. If practicing under a temporary permit: cannot administer IV contrast or participate in contrast-enhanced CT requiring IV administration duties, must be under direct supervision of licensed radiologic technologist, must obtain ARRT certification within 180 days of permit issue date. Temporary permits expire 180 days from date of issuance, or upon notice that license application denied, or ten days after notification of failure of licensing exam, whichever occurs first.
