Nursing Clinical Instructor - Part-Time Faculty

Job Title Part–Time Instructor of Nursing – School of Health Professions – Modesto Junior College2025-2026 Location Modesto Junior College Salary Hourly range: $54.27 to $86.76. Doctorate range: $63.95 to $89.04. Part‑time faculty office hours paid at a flat rate of $30 per hour. Benefits Not eligible for benefits other than Workers’ Compensation coverage. District benefit programs are not available to part‑time faculty. Scope of Assignment The successful candidate will join Modesto Junior College to create curriculum responsive to student needs, increasing student completion through the accelerated learning model and through implementation of strategies geared to increase student equity. Minimum Qualifications Any bachelor’s degree and two years of professional experience, or any associate degree and six years of professional experience. At least one‑year continuous full‑time or its equivalent experience in the designated nursing area within the previous five years as a registered nurse providing direct patient care. Recent experience may include teaching in the area of nursing. Knowledge of and ability to appraise the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students. Sensitivity to the needs, problems and challenges associated with the diversity of the community college student population. Desirable Qualifications Ability to serve as a professional role model to assist students to develop professional and ethical values and to maintain high standards of nursing practice. Ability to effectively instruct, supervise and evaluate students in the clinical aspects of nursing. Effective written and verbal communication skills with students and the community. Ability to work effectively in a close, collaborative team environment with other nursing faculty. Enthusiasm for the learning process. Commitment to supportive relationships with students and colleagues. Capable of instructing using teaching methods that accommodate various student‑learning styles. Participate in professional growth and remain current in subject area and major state initiatives. Ability to operate effectively in an environment of change and ambiguity. Personal qualifications such as effective interpersonal communication skills, participation in community affairs, ability to conduct effective public presentations. Desirable Professional Characteristics Bachelor’s degree in nursing. Education and/or experience in teaching in Nursing at the community college level. Current knowledge of Nursing clinical practice. Current understanding of assessment processes for improving student success at the course, program and degree level. Competent in new pedagogies, such as accelerated learning, supplemental instruction, online or hybrid teaching and other pedagogies directed at improving student success and student equity. Recent experience working with African American/Black, Hispanic, Native American and other minoritized students in the classroom and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups within higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes. Willingness to examine and remediate one’s instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students. Experience and skill with addressing issues of equity in the classroom. Experience and expertise in culturally responsive teaching in Nursing as it relates to the relevancy of Nursing in students’ lives, interests and communities. Demonstrated ability to address equity gaps within coursework and the classroom. Demonstrated knowledge of the Hispanic‑Serving designation for institutional departmental and instructional practices. Responsibilities Teach lower division clinical in Nursing. Implement program philosophy, objectives, policies and curriculum. Supervise student practice of new skills. Assist students with remedial skills practice as needed and communicate progress to nursing faculty team. Serve as skills evaluator. Maintain a comprehensive system of records for students in the clinical setting including student evaluations, grade book, clinical grids, competency testing, submission of clinical clearance records, positive attendance records, computer training records, semester checklists, etc. Assist with coordinating scheduling of pre and post conference meetings. Provide for orientation of students in the hospital setting. Assist with program‑related activities. Advance equitable student learning through dedicated, exemplary instruction in accordance with established course outlines. Inform students of course requirements, evaluation procedures and attendance requirements. Prepare and grade class assignments and examinations and inform students of their academic progress. Maintain attendance, scholastic and other records and submit them according to published policies and deadlines. Attend department, division and college‑wide meetings on a regular basis. Post and hold sufficient and regular office hours in accordance with prevailing policy. Develop, implement and assess student‑learning outcomes for courses and programs and use the results for improvement. Engage in data inquiry and self‑assessment to develop strategies for student success, persistence and equity. Participate in professional development activities, both departmental and college‑wide, especially connected to closing disproportionate impact gaps and improving completion goals. Maintain current knowledge in the subject matter area and effective teaching/learning strategies to meet the needs of all learning styles. Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics. Perform other duties as assigned. Physical and Mental Standards Mobility: ability to sit or stand for long periods, move about an office, and reach above and below desk level. Dexterity: fine manipulation sufficient to operate a keyboard, handle individual papers, write and take notes. Lifting: occasional lifting of papers, files, equipment and material weighing up to 25 pounds. Visual Requirements: close vision sufficient to read files, documents, and computer screens and do close‑up work; ability to adjust focus frequently. Hearing/Talking: ability to hear normal speech, speak and hear on the telephone, and speak in person. Emotional/Psychological Factors: ability to make decisions and concentrate; frequent contact with others including some public contact; frequent deadlines and time‑limited assignments.
