Physical Therapist - Acute Care

Physical Therapist I – Job Summary Sign on Bonus : $10,000 sign on bonus for offers accepted by February 28, 2026. Terms and Conditions apply. The Physical Therapist I is primarily responsible for delivering physical therapy care to the patient population to which she/he is assigned and recording that care in the hospital medical record. The Physical Therapist acts as a consultant to various patient clinics, provides instruction to PT support staff, students, personnel of other disciplines within VCUHS, and patient and/or family members. Therapists may also rotate through our various clinical service areas. Licensure, Certification, and Registration Requirements Licensed (or licensure eligible) by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Physical Therapist. Current license by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Physical Therapist. Current CPR Certification if required by clinic or practice area. Experience Required: New graduate to up to 2 years of work experience as a Physical Therapist. Employee is expected to progress to a Physical Therapist Clinician II level within two years of employment at VCUHS. Preferred: Previous affiliation or work experience at a similar facility. Education and Training Required: Graduate of an accredited School of Physical Therapy. Preferred: Masters or Doctoral Degree from an accredited School of Physical Therapy. Independent Actions and Responsibilities Patient evaluation and implementation of plan of care, discharge planning. Ordering equipment. Representing department at rounds and discharge conferences. Scheduling and charging patients. Potential supervisory responsibilities of Physical Therapist Assistants, Rehab Technicians, students, and volunteers. Member of a self-directed team and applies knowledge and experience in daily clinic problem solving; unresolved issues are brought to the departmental manager for assistance and guidance in resolution. The employee is expected to share in weekend and holiday schedule expectations of the department or have a fluctuation of daily work hours from 8 AM to 7 PM based on patient population needs. Emotional: Fast-paced environment; steady pace; able to handle multiple priorities; frequent and intense customer interactions; noisy environment; able to adapt to frequent change.
