Medical Office Assistant Position Details College - VP Student Affairs-DIV Executive Area - VP Student Affairs Department - Sindecuse Health Center Posting Number - S1647P Job Type - Full Time, Regular Pay Type - Nonexempt/Hourly Pay Grade - B Campus Location - WMU-Kalamazoo - Main Campus Salary Range - Pay is commensurate with qualifications and experience, combined with an excellent benefits package. Number of Vacancies - 1 General Summary - Supports the clinical services in an assigned unit by performing patient reception, registration and admission, appointment scheduling, medical record processing and cashiering. Major Duties - Registers and makes appointments for patients. Answers questions regarding accessing care and using insurance. Collects demographic information from patient and scans documents into electronic system. Performs data entry of insurance information and verifies eligibility and coverage. Maintains updated knowledge of changing health care business processes. Performs cashiering functions, including processing patient payments, running daily revenue reports, and processing daily deposits. Explains insurance billing and basic claims process. Obtains insurance verification, secures pre-authorization determinations from local and external databases. Minimum Qualifications - High school diploma or equivalent. One year's relevant experience. Medical office or clinical clerical support experience. Electronic health record experience. Desired Qualifications - Some college coursework from an accredited institution. Three years' relevant experience. Knowledge of point and click software. Successful completion of medical secretarial or medical terminology training. Physical requirements and working conditions - Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds. Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
