Critical Care Advanced Practice Provider, Neonatology

Description Critical Care Advanced Practice Providers (APP) are Nurse Practitioners (NP) or Physician Assistants (PA). They are credentialed by the medical staff and work within scope of practice and organizational bylaws. They provide evidence‑based care, assess, implement and evaluate detailed plans of care, incorporating diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. APPs demonstrate competency in age‑appropriate care and provide family‑centered support, addressing psychological needs, education, and discharge planning in collaboration with related disciplines. APPs initiate, participate and collaborate with critical‑care division and organization multi‑disciplinary staff to design and support evidence‑based education, quality improvement, and research. They participate in professional activities that improve patient care and the scientific knowledge base, contribute to program operations, and foster individual professional development. Through division projects and mentorship, APPs provide leadership within their clinical area, contribute to organization‑wide initiatives, and promote the role of advanced practice providers. Qualifications Minimum Education Master’s Degree in Nursing (Nurse Practitioner) from an accredited program; eligibility for medical staff credentialing required. Master’s or Doctoral degree in Physician Assistant Studies from an accredited program; eligibility for medical staff credentialing required. Minimum Work Experience 0 years of experience as an Advanced Practice Provider. Required Skills and Knowledge Strong knowledge of clinical specialty and services. Demonstrates clinical leadership skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Required Licenses and Certifications Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) Nurse Practitioner: licensure in state(s) of clinical practice, CDS in state(s), DEA; or Physician Assistant: licensure in state(s) of clinical practice, CDS in state(s), DEA; or Active national acute‑care certification (e.g., PNCB, ANCC, AANPCB) and BLS certification. Physician Assistant: active national certification with NCCPA and BLS certification. Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (BLS). Functional Accountabilities Clinical Assess, diagnose, and monitor clinical status of each patient utilizing evidence‑based practice and medical knowledge. Develop appropriate plan of care. Write patient care orders, prescribe therapy, and provide necessary home‑care orders as needed. Identify significant changes in patient status using physical exam, lab values, diagnostic tests, and patient/family input. Differentiates between normal and abnormal findings. Perform procedures as needed after obtaining appropriate credentialing. Participate in and/or lead multidisciplinary patient care. Serve as a clinical resource for patient, parents and the interdisciplinary team. Appropriately communicate and escalates clinical/administrative issues. Collaborate with nursing, medicine, and other members of the healthcare team to regularly ensure quality patient care. Administrative Serve as a clinical preceptor to NP, CNS or PA students. Act as a clinical resource for staff in patient care issues. Provide formal/informal educational presentations to staff on areas of expertise. Participate and lead quality improvement initiatives in the department. Organizational Commitment Partner in the mission and uphold core principles of the organization. Demonstrate accurate, clear and timely verbal and written communication. Actively promote safety for patients, families, visitors and co‑workers.
