JOB DESCRIPTION

• Bus Driver

QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be twenty-one years of age
• Class B Commercial Drivers License (CDL)
• Alabama School Bus Driver Certificate
• Must be in good physical condition and furnish, if requested, an examination report from their physician
• Maintains a clean record with the Department of Public Safety indicating that he or she is a responsible and law-abiding driver
• Other requirements as the Board may require

• Transportation and Maintenance Director

JOB GOAL

• To provide safe and efficient transportation so that students may enjoy the fullest possible advantage from the Colbert County Schools curriculum and extracurricular program

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Must obey federal and state school bus driver's handbook
• Observe all mandatory safety regulations for school buses
• Learn the route and also what is expected of him/her in regard to student control
• Reports undisciplined students to the proper authority
• Keeps assigned bus clean
• Keeps to assigned schedule
• Performs all routine maintenance checks as may be required prior to, during, and after the operation of the bus
• Notifies the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness
• Exercises responsible leadership when on out-of-county school trips
• Transports only authorized students
• Reports all accidents and completes required reports
• Enforces regulations against smoking, chewing tobacco, eating and drinking, and radios and CD players
• Report to the Transportation and Maintenance Director any cases of vandalism related to the bus
• Keep accurate attendance records and all other reports required by the Transportation Office
• Always check the bus after unloading to see that no students are left on the bus
• Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned by higher authority

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

• Terms of employment shall be consistent with the law relating to employment by a school system in the State of Alabama. 177-day year, with a salary scale established by the Board for this position.

SALARY

• Salary in accordance with the Board approved State Salary Schedule.

EVALUATION

• The performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's Policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel.
