Registered Nurse Intensive Care Unit

Job Description The Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care of patients. The staff RN utilizes the nursing process by technology, therapeutic intervention, evidence-based practice, and coordination of care with other health team members. Responsibilities Assess, recognize, and address patients’ psychological and physical needs. Foster quality of care with the best interests of patients and their families in mind. Communicate compassionately and effectively. Assist in developing individualized treatment plans. Comply with evaluation, treatment, and documentation guidelines. Oversee care delivered by LPNs and/or CNAs. Participate in clinical team conferences. Follow hospital, regulatory, and professional guidelines, policies, and procedures. Qualifications BSN Degree from an accredited program required within 4 years of hire (exceptions apply as specified). Current State of Montana Registered Nurse License. BLS certification upon hire. ACLS required within 9 months of hire for all ICU/ED RNs. TNCC or TCAR within 12 months of transfer or hire for all ICU/ED RNs; maintain equivalent recognized by the American College of Surgeons. Critical care experience highly preferred. Ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team to achieve patient‑focused outcomes. Ability to read and interpret documents, safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations. Ability to write reports and effectively present information. Ability to respond to inquiries, complaints from customers, and regulatory agencies. Basic mathematics skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals). Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages and interpret bar graphs. Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Regular attendance to perform work on site during scheduled shifts. Ongoing need to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies. Frequent verbal communication with patient care providers, patients, and visitors, especially during emergencies. Manual dexterity to manipulate complex equipment with precision. Ability to lift, move, and transfer patients and supplies, including heavy items. Ability to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and moving supplies, navigating crowded rooms. Physical endurance to stand for extended periods. Shift Details Part‑time night shift, weekends, holidays on a rotating basis. Department & Location ICU with floating to med/surg depending on census. St James Hospital, Butte, Montana. Pay Hourly range $33.38 – $79.73 depending on experience.
