This role oversees a team of centralized specialty clinical pharmacists and ambulatory pharmacist-led pharmacotherapy services operating under Collaborative Practice Agreements (CPAs) with physicians across multiple specialty disease states, including oncology, rheumatology, gastroenterology, neurology, etc.

The Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management and development of centralized and clinic-integrated clinical pharmacy teams, ensuring the consistent adoption of best practices and the delivery of high-quality patient care. This leader oversees a team of Shields clinical pharmacists who support comprehensive medication management, treatment monitoring, patient education, medication access, and outcomes-based care. The Manager serves as the primary liaison between pharmacy services and clinic leadership, fostering strong interdisciplinary partnerships to ensure seamless integration of pharmacist services into specialty care workflows.

The role is accountable for staff recruitment, onboarding, training, performance management, clinical quality assurance, productivity oversight, operational excellence, and program growth. The Manager will drive standardization, regulatory compliance, patient outcomes, and service expansion while ensuring pharmacists operate at the top of their licenses and certifications.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Program Leadership

  • Champion the development and implementation of innovative clinical service models that remove barriers to care, optimize medication adherence, and improve patient outcomes across specialty populations.
  • Lead pharmacist services delivered under Collaborative Practice Agreements (CPAs) and other approved clinical protocols, overseeing both clinic-integrated and remote clinical pharmacy teams to ensure high-quality patient care, operational excellence, and consistent implementation of best practices.
  • Partner with physician leaders and clinic management to identify opportunities for program expansion and enhanced patient outcomes.
  • Establish clinical standards, protocols, and best practices across specialty pharmacotherapy services.
  • Monitor and evaluate program performance through clinical outcomes, patient satisfaction, quality metrics, and operational effectiveness.
  • Partner closely with Shields Clinical Pharmacist Education and Development team to develop and enhance the pharmacist onboarding program.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in specialty pharmacy clinical services, supporting the consistent application of evidence-based care practices across disease states and care settings.

Relationship Management & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to support the successful implementation, expansion, and integration of clinical pharmacy services within new and existing specialty programs.
  • Build and maintain strong collaborative relationships with Pharmacotherapy clinic managers, medical directors, physicians, nursing leaders, and operational stakeholders across health system partner specialty clinics.
  • Serve as the primary pharmacy operations liaison for clinic leadership where pharmacist services are integrated.
  • Facilitate ongoing communication regarding staffing, workflows, performance metrics, patient care initiatives, and operational opportunities.
  • Engage stakeholders in continuous improvement initiatives and service line development.
  • Represent pharmacy services within interdisciplinary committees, leadership meetings, and strategic planning efforts.

Pharmacist Leadership & People Management

  • Directly supervise clinic-based and remote clinical pharmacists supporting specialty pharmacotherapy programs, ensuring consistent delivery of high-quality patient care, operational excellence, and adherence to established clinical standards.
  • Lead recruitment, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and retention efforts for pharmacist team members.
  • Support and help develop comprehensive onboarding and competency programs for newly hired pharmacists.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and establish professional development plans.

Serve as a mentor and clinical resource to pharmacists, fostering advanced clinical knowledge, professional growth, and development of future pharmacy leaders.

Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, patient-centered care, and continuous improvement.

Ensure staffing models appropriately support clinic demand and organizational objectives.

Clinical Quality & Performance Oversight

  • Establish and monitor pharmacist productivity standards and performance metrics.
  • Conduct routine clinical audits to ensure documentation quality, protocol adherence, and regulatory compliance.
  • Evaluate patient care outcomes, intervention effectiveness, and clinical program performance.
  • Identify opportunities for workflow optimization and standardization across practice sites.
  • Ensure pharmacists maintain competency in specialty disease management, evidence-based treatment guidelines, and collaborative practice requirements.
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives focused on patient outcomes, access to care, and operational efficiency.

Operational Excellence

  • Collaborate closely with pharmacy leadership and care teams to ensure alignment of clinical and operational workflows, enhance patient experience, and support continuity of care across the specialty pharmacy model.
  • Partner closely with pharmacy technicians and operations teams to optimize workflows, drive operational excellence, and support seamless pharmacist-technician collaboration.
  • Collaborate with clinic leadership to develop efficient workflows within Epic and other clinical systems.
  • Monitor staffing, scheduling, workload distribution, and resource utilization.
  • Support development and implementation of operational policies, procedures, and clinical documentation standards.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, state pharmacy regulations, accreditation standards, and payer requirements.
  • Utilize data analytics and reporting tools to evaluate productivity, quality, patient outcomes, and financial performance.

Documentation & Technology Management

  • Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation within Epic.
  • Partner with informatics and operational teams to optimize Epic workflows, templates, reporting tools, and pharmacy-related processes.
  • Monitor quality and consistency of documentation completed by pharmacists.
  • Support implementation of technology solutions that enhance patient care, operational efficiency, and reporting capabilities.
