Physician - Emergency Medicine

The Brooklyn campus of the New York Harbor Healthcare System is currently looking for a full-time emergency medicine physician.

Our ER has an annual volume of 11,600 visits. New York Harbor is a comprehensive healthcare system that includes two acute care hospitals, one long-term care facility, and two community outpatient clinics. We also host a wide range of specialty and subspeciality services and serve as the tertiary care referral center for VISN2. The physician will be responsible for providing on-site direct patient care and supervising the emergency medicine residents and physician assistants. This includes the initial evaluation, stabilization, treatment, and disposition for ambulatory, acute, and critical care patients. The physician will order and interpret all diagnostic testing required for the ED evaluation and consult specialty services as needed. The physician will make the final decision regarding acute or critical care admission or discharge and arrange outpatient follow up. The physician will also provide optimal customer service and collaborate with the veteran patient and caregivers. The physician will be expected to uphold ED quality and flow metrics. The physician will also have the opportunity to engage in quality improvement and patient experience projects and to provide didactic educational lectures to the physician assistant fellows and studies. The ED physician will report directly to the Chief of Emergency Medicine for New York Harbor. The work schedule will average 40 hours/week. The physician's duties will include day shifts and some nights and weekend shifts. It will also include 2 back up call days per month, on average.
