You enjoy working collaboratively across teams and have the ability to communicate complex technical concepts in a clear, approachable manner.Who We AreThe MongoDB Product Security organization is a diverse collection of individuals working together to scale MongoDB’s security, both security of the products themselves and the security features we offer to customers. The team is responsible for assessing the security of our products including MongoDB Atlas Cloud, Ops Manager, Kubernetes Operator, and the MongoDB Server (Community and Enterprise editions). Our team provides assurance that new MongoDB products and features are built to meet our customers’ high security needs through rigorous threat modeling, code analysis, and penetration testing.The MongoDB Product Security organization works with software engineers to design, implement, and operate systems in a manner that protects our customers and their data. It is a multidisciplinary team that covers product, software, cloud, infrastructure, and operational security concerns.The Product Security team:Conducts rigorous penetration testing and security assessments of MongoDB productsDevelops and deploys advanced AI tooling and modern automation to enhance assessment efficiency and workflowsWorks closely with Product and Engineering teams to advocate for security best practices and remediate vulnerabilitiesBuilds a developer-driven security program where there is tight integration between engineering artifacts, process, and toolingUses software architecture and coding patterns to reduce the impact of security issuesRole ResponsibilitiesAs a Product Security Engineer specializing in security assessments, your responsibilities will include:Leading the evolution of our internal security and assessment processes by leveraging AI-based analysis to enhance threat modeling, penetration testing workflows, and assessment efficiencyConducting deep-dive penetration tests and hands-on security assessments of MongoDB products, including architecture reviews, threat modeling, static/dynamic code analysis, and vulnerability exploit verificationResearching, prototyping, and executing new attack vectors and techniques to strengthen our defensive measuresCollaborating closely with engineering teams to advocate security best practices and to remediate identified vulnerabilitiesRecommending secure coding patterns, container security measures, and secrets management strategies to strengthen our productsPartnering with product development teams to ensure secure delivery across cloud environments, applications, and systemsCoordinating closely with the red team and detection functions and processes to address potential security incidents or implement new defensive or monitoring capabilitiesRequirements7+ years of experience in application security, product security or penetration testing roles, including manual and automated approachesProven expertise in product security assessment techniques such as threat modeling, penetration testing, red teaming, and secure code reviewsSome programming and scripting skills, with familiarity in one or more languages such as Python or GolangHands-on experience with one or more major cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure)Experience leading threat modeling workshops and discussing security issues with engineersComfortable explaining and communicating technical concepts and findings to both technical and non-technical audiencesDemonstrated ownership of security initiatives, with the ability to deliver results autonomously or collaborativelyWorking knowledge of large-scale distributed systems and container technologies (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker)Knowledge of security tools and frameworks for cloud and application securitySuccess in This Role Looks LikeDriving improvements in MongoDB’s product security through end-to-end ownership of security assessmentsGuiding and mentoring the team through the technological evolution of our security assessment processes using modern AI capabilitiesProactively uncovering vulnerabilities and presenting actionable recommendations to engineering teamsBuilding trust and establishing yourself as a key security partner within the organizationGrowing MongoDB’s security capabilities and contributing to innovative solutions that enhance customer trust and product robustnessAbout MongoDBMongoDB is built for change, empowering our customers and our people to innovate at the speed of the market. Compensation at the time of offer is unique to each candidate and based on a variety of factors such as skill set, experience, qualifications, and work location.
