The Community Music Center of Boston, an arts education nonprofit with a mission to transform lives by providing equitable access to excellent music education and arts experiences, is seeking a motivated and student-centered group strings and general music instructor to provide instruction to elementary-age students at our community partner sites. Lastly, additional teaching opportunities are available for candidates with the ability to play and teach multiple instruments.Status: Regular, part time hourly, exemptStart Date: September 2026Schedule: In person, 7-8 hours per week, Monday & Wednesday 1:00-4:30 with room for growth in both during school and after school hoursSpecific ResponsibilitiesCommunity -Based Instruction and CollaborationTeach students according to curricular guidelinesDevelop instructional materials and lesson plansPrepare students for performance events and opportunities Complete attendance in registration software accurately and timelyMaintain open and regular communication with site contacts to support educational progressCommunication and ParticipationAttend department meetings and the annual all-faculty meetings as scheduledParticipate in department events, recitals, and concerts Actively respond to pertinent emails from all CMCB staff in a timely mannerQualificationsEssentialMust have Bachelor's degree in music performance/education with knowledge in the field of string-specific performance/pedagogy or equivalent experienceMinimum of 2-3 years teaching experience in classroom group settings (public school preferred)Strong time management and classroom management skillsAbility to adapt to individual needs of a diverse student population and provide constructive feedbackMust be adept at and comfortable with working in a culturally diverse environment with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion as pedagogical and professional valuesInterest in the following focus areas: Culturally Responsive Teaching, Creative Youth Development - Student Voice/Agency, and Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)Regularly reflects on practice, seeks and responds to feedback, and demonstrates self-awareness and commitment to continuous learning and developmentAbility to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, when conversing with students, families, and colleaguesSkilled at engaging with families and building collaborative, respectful relationships with them in service of student learningProficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite (Google Docs, Google Forms, and Google Sheets)PreferredExperience working in a public school or community settingFluency in Spanish, Mandarin/Cantonese, French, and/or Haitian CreoleExperience working with with students with specialized needs (e.g. disability, diagnosis)Physical DemandsWhile performing the duties of this job, the person in this position must be able to to remain in a stationary position 25% of the time. They need to occasionally move around the space to access teaching supplies and instruments. They must also converse with students in a normal classroom setting and discern and recognize changes in tone, pitch, rhythm, and volume. They may occasionally move or transport supplies and instruments up to 10 pounds.
