This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Staff Backend Engineer based in Brazil.

This is a high-impact backend engineering role focused on building the core systems behind an AI-native financial platform. You will design and ship reliable backend services and APIs that power business-critical accounting workflows. The role combines technical depth with end-to-end ownership across architecture, development, deployment, and observability. You'll work extensively with complex business logic, financial data, integrations, and production systems where correctness and reliability matter. As a senior technical contributor, you'll have significant influence over engineering decisions and product direction. You'll join a fast-moving, high-trust environment where pragmatic solutions, initiative, and rapid iteration are highly valued. The position offers substantial ownership and the opportunity to help shape foundational technology at an early-stage, high-growth company.

Accountabilities

• Design, develop, and evolve scalable backend systems and APIs that support real-time, business-critical accounting workflows.
• Build and ship features end to end, taking ownership of architecture, implementation, testing, CI/CD, monitoring, and production readiness.
• Develop robust services and APIs, with Python preferred, while selecting practical technologies and approaches suited to the problem.
• Work with complex business logic and financial data, ensuring systems are reliable, maintainable, and resilient.
• Design and optimize database structures, queries, schemas, migrations, and ORM-based data access patterns.
• Integrate third-party applications and external systems while proactively identifying edge cases, dependencies, and operational risks.
• Deploy and maintain backend services in AWS or comparable cloud environments, ensuring strong production and reliability fundamentals.
• Contribute to engineering standards and technical decisions through pragmatic problem-solving, rapid iteration, and continuous improvement.
• Take strong end-to-end ownership of challenging technical initiatives and move projects forward with a high degree of autonomy.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience, with strong expertise in building production-grade backend systems.
• Proven experience working with products involving complex business logic, data-intensive workflows, or other mission-critical systems.
• Strong database expertise, including PostgreSQL, SQL, ORMs, migrations, and schema design.
• Experience deploying and operating applications on AWS or a comparable cloud platform.
• Solid understanding of CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring, and production-readiness practices.
• Strong software architecture and API development skills, with the ability to make pragmatic technical decisions based on real-world requirements.
• Python experience is highly desirable, particularly with modern frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask, or Django.
• High agency, strong ownership, and a demonstrated ability to independently identify problems and deliver solutions.
• A pragmatic and execution-oriented approach, with the ability to balance technical quality, speed, and business impact.
• Curiosity and willingness to learn new technologies, frameworks, and approaches to solving engineering challenges.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where teams deploy frequently, iterate quickly, and expect engineers to take initiative.
