The Fort Miller Group, located in Greenwich, NY, is seeking a Cost Accountant to join our Accounting & Finance team. This position is designed for an accounting professional who wants to develop strong manufacturing cost accounting expertise. The Cost Accountant will support product costing, inventory accounting, cost analysis, month-end close, and related process improvements across our group of companies. The Cost Accountant will work to develop systems and leverage technology to drive efficiencies and provide insights.

Your role as a Cost Accountant :

• Learn the Company's cost accounting processes, systems, and reporting practices through hands-on training with the current accounting team.
• Maintain and analyze standard costs, including material, labor, overhead, bills of material, routings, work centers, labor rates, overhead rates, and related cost assumptions.
• Analyze manufacturing variances, inventory activity, margins, and other cost-related results; investigate significant or unusual items and communicate findings.
• Support monthly and annual closing activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, inventory valuation, supporting schedules, and related financial analysis.
• Maintain and prepare revenue recognition schedules and journal entries.
• Partner with operations, engineering, purchasing, and finance personnel to understand cost drivers, improve data accuracy, and support business decisions.
• Prepare recurring and ad hoc cost reports and analyses for subsidiary and corporate management.
• Collaborate with business leaders to understand cost of materials and cost variances on their financial statements and how those variances tie to job costing.
• Participate in improvements to cost accounting systems, reports, and workflows.

What We're Looking For:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Two or more years of accounting experience; experience in manufacturing, inventory accounting, or cost accounting is preferred.
• Solid understanding of general accounting principles and the relationship between operational activity, inventory, and the general ledger.
• Professional communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with both accounting and non-accounting personnel.
• Comfort with technology, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft 365 suite and willingness to learn new software and the Company's ERP System, JD Edwards EnterpriseOne.
