Radiation Therapist
Join a dedicated healthcare team in the heart of the Midwest region as a Radiation Therapist. This role involves expertly administering prescribed radiation doses to targeted body areas using advanced radiation therapy equipment, ensuring patient safety and treatment accuracy.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely deliver radiation treatments according to established protocols and physician prescriptions.
- Accurately position and image patients for treatment consistency.
- Respond to emergent patient needs during on-call shifts.
- Document treatments, schedule appointments, and manage charges through electronic health records.
- Conduct daily operational and safety checks on linear accelerators and simulation devices.
- Adhere to radiation safety principles to protect patients, self, and colleagues.
- Simulate patients under physician guidance and fabricate immobilization devices as necessary.
- Verify treatment plans against physician prescriptions before initiating therapy.
- Train and supervise students or junior radiotherapy technologists.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and uphold ethical standards regarding patient rights.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance care delivery.
- Educate and support patients and their families by addressing questions and reinforcing treatment guidance.
Education
Graduation from an accredited School of Radiation Therapy Technology is required.
Experience
At least one year of experience in radiation oncology is preferred. Strong communication skills and attention to detail are essential. Computer proficiency is advantageous.
Certifications and Licenses
- Registered Radiation Therapist (ARRT) certification or eligibility in Radiation Therapy.
- American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association required.
Mental and Physical Requirements
This position demands significant mental focus and the ability to work under stressful conditions related to patient care. Physical duties include lifting up to 60 lbs., frequent walking, standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.
Working Conditions
Standard radiation safety protocols apply, with minimal exposure to radioactive materials. Occasional exposure to biohazards, infectious materials, and challenging situations may occur. The role includes a flexible schedule with on-call responsibilities.
