Service Manager

Service Manager – Grocery Department FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Core Competencies: Partnerships, Growth mindset, Results oriented, Customer focused, Professionalism Reporting Relations Accountable to District Store Director; reports to Store Manager and Assistant Managers of HWH, Perishables, Store Operations and eCommerce. Supervises all store positions except those specifically listed. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Maintain a positive and friendly store atmosphere, encouraging employees to greet customers. Provide prompt, courteous, and efficient customer service, addressing customer needs and suggestions. Assist customers with locating products, handling heavy items, and enhancing the shopping experience. Answer telephone inquiries promptly and professionally. Plan, prepare, and adjust work schedules; assign employees to duties and follow up on completion. Supervise and coordinate activities of employees across all departments in the absence of Department Managers. Implement pricing and merchandising guidelines per Store Director standards. Ensure consistent customer service throughout the store. Evaluate employee performance and recommend personnel actions (promotion, transfer, dismissal). Train and enforce safety procedures; complete incident reports and first report of injury forms. Compile and analyze managerial data including sales, inventory, and display projections. Order merchandise, verify delivery, ensure quality, and report discrepancies. Train workers on store policies, procedures, and job duties. Ensure compliance with security, sales, and record‑keeping procedures. Determine placement of advertisements and promotional displays. Assist in resolving employee problems and applying established policies. Explain store services to potential personal and business account customers. Maintain understanding of store accounting fundamentals. Maintain consistent personal hygiene and dress per company guidelines. Secondary Duties and Responsibilities Provide appropriate motivational environment for employees. Stay current with market trends, competition, and merchandising techniques. Offer continuous education on updated company and store policies. Sell merchandise to employees, customers, or fulfill requisitions. Handle cash registers and recommend cost‑reduction programs. Review personnel records for accuracy. Recommend merchandise allocation and shelf placement. Assist in other store areas as needed. Perform additional duties and special projects. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Two years or more of similar supervisory experience preferred. Strong problem‑solving skills with limited standardization. Ability to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages. Capable of interviewing, guiding staff, and following technical manuals. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Physical Requirements Must be able to lift up to 50lb occasionally and 20lb frequently, perform repetitive motions, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, reach, stand, walk, pull, lift, and grasp. Adequate visual acuity required. Working Conditions Exposure to dust, noise, temperature extremes, equipment hazards, electrical shock, chemicals, and solvents in a fast‑paced environment. Equipment Used Pallet jack, box cutter, cash registers, knives, trash compactor, cardboard baler, fork lift, computer, calculator, telephone, fax machine, two‑wheelers, ordering machine, and shipping equipment. Financial Responsibility Authorized to purchase merchandise and supplies and order repairs on equipment. Contact & Regulatory Daily contact with customers, employees, suppliers/vendors, and public. Occasional contact with federal or state regulatory agencies. Confidentiality Access to pricing, sales reports, profit and loss reports, and wages.
