Position Posted Until a Viable Pool of Candidates Has Been Established Associate Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology or related discipline and a minimum of five (5) years of experience working on construction, remodeling, retrofitting, rail or mass transit projects or on projects within the general infrastructure environment such as track maintenance, electrical, mechanical, civil, structural, etc. Ability and knowledge to read and understand contract specification and drawings. Ability to read and generally understand applicable codes. Knowledge and understanding of engineering and architectural terminology and general practices. Knowledge and understanding of engineering and architectural terminology specifically related to the mass transit and rail industry. Working knowledge in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel. In lieu of the educational requirement, directly related experience will substitute on a year-for-year basis. Interview Selection Process The selection process may include one or more components to demonstrate applicants’ knowledge, skills and abilities in job related areas. These may include exercises such as practical demonstrations, written communications, oral interviews and/or competency assessments. Summary Ensures that contractors performing MARTA rapid rail and facilities projects comply with applicable building codes, regulations, contract specifications, and drawings through ongoing, regular inspections, usually in a specific area of assignment or expertise (i.e., architectural, mechanical, electrical, civil, structural, rail, etc.). Manages several projects simultaneously. May mentor and/or train lower-level field inspection staff. This position has direct responsibility for transit safety oversight at MARTA and is required to comply with the training requirements identified in the Authority’s Agency Safety Plan. Additionally, this position has been identified as designated personnel and is required to adhere to the following statutes and regulations. Monitors on site construction activities, verifies quality of materials, workmanship and products are being provided and installed in accordance with the approved construction contract documents. Prepare, submit and maintain daily records of work activities, quantities used and conditions at the job site. Conduct inspections and site observations as required to document the quality of work being installed. Reports documented work quality issues to the Quality Assurance Engineer and the Resident Engineer. Redlines contract documents as minor changes are being made in the field. Assists with the development and implementation of project quality control plans. Recommends corrective/preventive action and implements the necessary action plan to correct deficiencies. Works closely with the Resident Engineer and Office Engineer to understand the technical data and submittals associated with the assigned project. Assists the Resident Engineer and Office Engineer with the technical review of project submittals and RFIs. Provides quantity verifications for progress payments. Reports any safety or project schedule deviations to the Project Safety Engineer and the Resident Engineer. Ability to mentor and/or train lower-level inspection staff. Performs other related duties as assigned. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations OSHA 30 and Authority's Safety Compliance certifications preferred. Physical Demands Field 1. Walks or stands for a minimum of 6 hours per shift. 2. Must kneel, squat, stoop or bend to perform tasks. 3. Climbs ladders onto roof 50 feet + or down manholes as required. 4. Climb and descend stairs. 5. Reaches from floor level to overhead. 6. Occasionally lifts and carries equipment or supplies that weigh up to 50 + pounds.
