Youth Program Lead
The purpose of this position is to help oversee the youth and volunteers in the Children's Church and Youth Programs and implement the ministry and mission of the Eastside Corps Community Center. They will also help in all aspects of our After School Program and our Summer Day Camp. This position will require a "ministry mindset" and an evangelistic approach to children's and youth ministry. The biggest responsibility of the Youth Program Aide is helping facilitate the youth programs at the Eastside Corps and Community Center (i.e. after school programs, VBS, open gym nights, family nights, etc.)
Essential duties include maintaining clean classrooms, completing and submitting youth reports and statistics reports, picking up youth for Afterschool Children and Youth Programs, fueling and maintaining vehicles, planning, organizing, and leading Sunday Children's Church and Youth Programs, maintaining registration and payment accounts for afterschool programs, Summer Day Camp, and Winter and Spring Day Camps, responsible for Camp Arnold online registration and coordinating transportation, pickup and drop-off and follow-up to seekers, assisting as needed in the implementation of other youth programs such as: Teen Nights, vacation Bible school, Day Camp, Bible studies, assemblies/chapel meetings, etc., maintaining department logs including, but not limited to, attendance sheet, document volunteer hours, fill out incident reports, and notice of concerns, creating physical files as needed, providing administrative support to department heads as needed, implementing Child Safety procedures as outlined by The Salvation Army policies, maintaining accurate, organized, complete and functional files related to Protecting the Mission and Policies for Work with Minors, planning, preparing for, and conducting training and informational sessions and workshops related to Protecting the Mission and Policies for work with minors, ensuring compliance to policies, disseminating and providing updates of Mission and Policy material at the Eastside Corps Community Center, leading or assisting, as necessary, with following through with concerns and complaints, preparing and distributing snacks and meals as needed for programs, keeping classrooms, gym, chapel, and all areas occupied by the Youth Program clean and orderly and eliminating any safety hazards, performing all safety duties as required by The Salvation Army's safety policies, assisting with Christmas programs and other seasonal programs, community programs, projects, and office tasks when necessary or requested by the commanding officer or program supervisor, performing general clerical duties to include but not limited to photocopying, emailing, texting, mailing and filing as needed, creating a fun and safe environment for all involved in the Youth Department, planning and preparing activities, classes, and art projects for Youth Department, being available as a driver or a "fill-in" driver for Youth Department, kettle routes, and other Salvation Army programs, as needed, attending staff, Corps Council, and Advisory Council meetings, training, and conferences as recommended and approved by commanding Officer, conducting assessments as needed to determine whether programs offered are relevant, providing input to the budget process for the youth department and keeping expenditures within approved budgetary line items, following all fiscal and financial policies and procedures implemented by the Salvation Army Eastside Corps Community Center, implementing all safety policies and regulations as required by The Salvation Army Injury and Incident Prevention Program (IIPP), including reporting of any injury, illness or near-misses by employees, having a close working relationship with other Corps personnel, regular attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job, entering and updating work schedule into assigned Corps systems, if needed, performing any other work-related duties and assignments as requested by Supervisor/ Corps Officer.
Qualifications include being at least 18 years of age, having a High School Diploma or GED, minimum of 2 years of experience in one or more of the following fields: youth work, programming, teen development, etc., a valid Frist Aid CPR/ AED certificate, an ability to deal with physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of youth in programs, ability to communicate and interact effectively with a diverse client population, a valid Washington State Driver's license and ability to pass TSA MVR check and in-house driving test, including being at least 21 years of age to be able to drive, ability to pass background and MVR checks, ability to work with limited or no supervision, ability to work with other staff members and volunteers a must, ability to speak English fluently to communicate with volunteers and children in programs, ability to remain calm in stressful situations, ability to multi-task and set priorities, having a working knowledge of The Salvation Army's mission or willingness to learn it, an understanding and acceptance of The Salvation Army's mission, philosophy, and practices, ability to work within the organization and carry out its policies and procedures, having good people skills and a friendly demeanor, basic computer knowledge: Excel, Word. PowerPoint and ability to navigate database applications and use new software programs with basic training, must have good communication and organizational skills, must be a team-player, must be goal-oriented and self-motivated, capable of maintaining high level of integrity, be a team player, expected to demonstrate the following characteristics in relation to their assigned duties: creativity, self-motivation, responsibility, accountability, flexibility, good people skills, detail oriented, be a team player and maintain a high level of personal integrity, ability and willingness to keep information confidential, ability to communicate (verbally and written) with staff and clients from a variety of racial, cultural, economic, and religious backgrounds.
Equipment used includes basic computer knowledge including the Microsoft Office Suite and Excel, Word. PowerPoint and ability to navigate database applications and use new software programs with basic training. PC or Laptop Printer Gloves Van/ Truck Various Computer Softwares Copy Machine Calculator Telephone Carts Sports Equipment Miscellaneous office equipment including but not limited to staplers, three-hole punch, etc.
Physical requirements include ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis, ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, carts, pallet jacks, boxes, crates, and reach overhead, ability to operate telephone, desktop or laptop computer, and a motor vehicle, ability to lift a minimum of 25lbs.
