Salary: $18-24/hr

Overview: We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Medical Support Assistant/Clerk to join our team at a federal government healthcare facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing administrative support and assistance to medical staff, ensuring smooth operations within the medical department.

Responsibilities:

• Schedule patient appointments, consultations, and follow-up visits using electronic scheduling systems.
• Greet patients, visitors, and staff in a professional and courteous manner, providing assistance and direction as needed.
• Maintain patient medical records and ensure accuracy and confidentiality in handling sensitive information.
• Verify patient demographic information and insurance coverage, collecting necessary co-pays or fees as required.
• Assist medical staff with patient intake processes, including obtaining vital signs and updating medical history forms.
• Coordinate medical referrals and obtain necessary authorizations from insurance providers or government agencies.
• Prepare and process medical correspondence, reports, and forms according to established procedures.
• Maintain inventory of medical and office supplies, ordering additional supplies as needed and ensuring proper storage and organization.
• Assist with the maintenance and cleanliness of the medical office and examination rooms, including sterilization of equipment and disposal of hazardous materials.
• Provide general clerical support, including answering phones, responding to inquiries, and directing messages to appropriate personnel.
• Collaborate with other healthcare professionals and administrative staff to ensure efficient workflow and quality patient care.
• Adhere to all federal regulations, policies, and procedures governing healthcare administration and patient confidentiality.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or certification in medical assisting or healthcare administration preferred.
• Previous experience working in a medical office or healthcare setting, preferably in a clerical or administrative role.
• Proficiency in using electronic medical records (EMR) systems and other office software applications.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients, staff, and external contacts.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and insurance billing practices preferred.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information and comply with HIPAA regulations.
• Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work schedules, including occasional evening or weekend shifts as needed.
