This role includes responsibilities, skill requirements, qualifications, and benefits as outlined below. Job Responsibilities Meet all state and local code compliance and reporting requirements. Apply knowledge of building codes, policies, and procedures to day‑to‑day functions of the building department. Serve as primary liaison with clients, ensuring the highest level of customer service. Attend department and community meetings as required. Perform plan reviews for commercial and residential projects in all trades. Provide inspection support as needed. Supervise building department staff. Skills & Knowledge Demonstrate extensive knowledge of local building code regulations, policies, and procedures. Client and team management experience in a building department setting. Solid computer skills and experience using MS Office programs. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Exercise initiative and independent judgment. Self‑directed and self‑motivated. Education, Certification & Experience ICC Building Official Certification required. ICC Residential and Commercial Building Inspector Certifications required. ICC Building Plans Examiner Certification preferred. ICC Building Code Specialist Certification preferred. ICC Commercial Mechanical Inspector Certification preferred. Inspection and plan review experience for commercial and residential structures required. Experience supervising building department staff required. Physical Requirements Frequent walking, standing, climbing, bending, stooping, crawling, or kneeling for inspections. Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, or unfinished stairways to access roofs, attics, crawl spaces, and other elevated areas. Occasional lifting, carrying, or moving objects up to 25–50 pounds. Vision & Hearing Visual acuity sufficient to read construction plans and observe details. Ability to detect safety hazards and defects visually and auditorily. Hearing sufficient to communicate in noisy environments. Manual Dexterity Use of hands and fingers for tools, inspection equipment, computers, and tablets. Work Environment Work performed in both office and field settings. Exposure to outdoor weather conditions and construction site environments. Frequent driving between inspection sites and company locations.
