Manufacturing Engineer

This role focuses on designing and improving mechanical components and manufacturing processes while working closely with production teams on the shop floor. The Manufacturing Engineer supports new product development, enhances manufacturability, and drives continuous improvement across fabrication, welding, machining, and assembly operations.

Responsibilities

• Design and modify mechanical components, assemblies, and sheet metal parts using CAD software such as SolidWorks or similar tools.
• Create and maintain accurate engineering drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and manufacturing documentation to support production.
• Support welding, fabrication, machining, and assembly operations by improving manufacturability and optimizing production processes.
• Troubleshoot design, quality, and production issues on the manufacturing floor and implement effective corrective actions.
• Conduct time studies and process analyses to identify bottlenecks, improve throughput, and reduce production costs.
• Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, quality, and safety in manufacturing operations.
• Collaborate closely with production, manufacturing, and engineering teams to implement process and product improvements.
• Support new product development activities, including prototyping, design reviews, and transition to full production.
• Manage and implement engineering changes, ensuring production readiness and minimal disruption to ongoing operations.
• Drive Lean Manufacturing initiatives, including Kaizen events, 5S implementation, Kanban systems, and workflow improvements.
• Act as a technical resource on the manufacturing floor, providing guidance on fabrication and welding operations and resolving day-to-day production challenges.

Essential Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• At least 1 year of experience in mechanical design, manufacturing engineering, or production support; internships and co-op experience considered.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software.
• Experience working in a manufacturing, fabrication, welding, or industrial environment.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and manufacturing documentation.
• Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals, including knowledge of mechanical systems and components.
• Effective problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve design and production issues.
• Strong communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams on the shop floor and in engineering.
• Demonstrated teamwork skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.
• Interest in spending significant time on the manufacturing floor supporting production activities.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Sheet metal design experience, including developing and optimizing sheet metal components and assemblies.
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement methodologies such as Kaizen, 5S, Kanban, and waste reduction.
• Experience with heavy equipment, mobile machinery, trucks, agricultural equipment, or similar products.
• Background in fabrication, welding, machining, or assembly operations, with an understanding of shop practices and constraints.
• Experience supporting new product development from concept through production launch.
• Demonstrated interest in improving processes, solving production problems, and supporting fabrication and welding operations.

Work Environment

The role is based in a manufacturing environment focused on highly customized products rather than repetitive mass production, offering variety and technical challenge in daily work. The Manufacturing Engineer works closely with engineering, fabrication, welding, and production teams, spending significant time on the shop floor to support operations and implement improvements. The position provides direct impact on both product design and manufacturing processes, allowing the engineer to see their designs move from concept to completed product. Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Huntsville, AL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $33.65 - $40.86/hr.
