Job Description Job Description - Surgical Tech Ortho Urology $8k Bonus (260000A5) Overview Mid‑Shift. Orientation: Monday-Friday 06:15-14:45 for up to 12 weeks. Experience: 2 years’ experience with knowledge of eight (8) to ten (10) surgical specialties and ability to operate basic/standard operating room equipment. Licenses and Certifications: (CST) Certified Surgical Technician — completion of an appropriate training program for surgical technology in the U.S. military or U.S. public health services, or employment in a health‑care facility before September 1, 2009. (BLS) Basic Life Support course approved by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC). Preferred: Ortho, Spine, and/or Urology CST experience. Job Duties Assists the Registered Nurse Circulator by organizing, prioritizing tasks, and preparing the operating room for each surgical procedure and patient arrival efficiently and timely. Maintains ongoing communication with the Registered Nurse Circulator regarding the procedure and patient status. Provides perioperative patient care through selection, inspection, and opening of surgical supplies and equipment in a timely manner according to age‑specific concerns for children, adolescents, adults, and older adults and the physician’s preference list. Applies standards of aseptic and sterile technique, corrects breaches in technique during procedures, and creates and maintains a sterile field with essential supplies and equipment. Promotes patient safety by checking all equipment for proper working order prior to surgery. Performs sponge, sharps, and formal and instrument counts with the Registered Nurse Circulator at prescribed intervals according to hospital policy. Passes surgical instruments and anticipates the surgeon’s needs during the procedure. Performs surgical hand scrubs, gowns, and gloves for self and others. Cleans and prepares surgical instruments for terminal sterilization, assisting with operating room turnover. Leads, directs, and coordinates perioperative patient care assignments of unlicensed team members by serving as a technical subject‑matter person, resource person, and/or preceptor. Completes written clinical performance evaluation forms in a timely manner. Organizes and prioritizes perioperative tasks based on identified needs, demonstrating competency with surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment and operating independently. Solves minor issues of counts, errors, patient care, relationships, equipment, supplies, and environment prior to management intervention, supporting a team environment. Performs other duties as assigned.
