Surgical Assistant I

Job Location: Maryland Oral Surgery Associates, Rockville, MD Job Title: Surgical Assistant I Job Type: Fulltime Overview We are looking for a Surgical Assistant to join our growing practice. The role requires organization, attention to patients’ needs, and a commitment to providing excellent patient care. Surgical Responsibilities Assist surgeon during consultations and treatment. Perform basic lab duties (impressions, pouring up/trimming models). Properly clean instruments in accordance with infection control and biohazard protocols. Operate and maintain the autoclave. Set up the surgical tray. Identify instruments used in the clinic. Set up and break down room for IV anesthesia and surgery. Seat patient and perform pre‑op set‑up. Review patient charts. Set up nitrous oxide. Position restraints properly. Support airway for sedated patients. Circulate and retrieve instruments. Provide excellent patient care and communication. Non‑Surgical Responsibilities Restock supplies, forms, handouts, and rooms. Take vital signs. Be familiar with all forms and handouts (procedure‑based, consent forms, etc.). Maintain compliance with OSHA requirements (e.g., personal protection). Perform administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, filing, and charting. Make follow‑up phone calls to patients. Possibly take X‑Rays. Open and close the office each day (tanks, suction, X‑ray). Greet patients and make them feel comfortable. Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Current CPR/BLS certification. Dental X‑ray license (Pano, PA, CBCT). Excellent organizational and time‑management skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to provide excellent patient care even under stressful circumstances. Consistent professionalism in appearance and attitude. Preferred Qualifications Completion of an accredited Surgical Assistant program. Certification as a Surgical Assistant. Schedule Monday to Friday, 8‑hour shift. Must be able to stand up to 80% of the time at minimum. Physical requirements include sitting, stooping, turning, standing, bending, walking, hearing, reading, writing, and keyboarding; may lift up to 25 lbs.
