This person will help translate MI's policy research and commentary into polished, engaging programming built to reach large digital audiences.The producer will oversee the full production process—from developing concepts and preparing shoots to recording, editing, packaging, and distributing finished content. The role requires both technical fluency and strong editorial instincts: an understanding of what makes digital content visually compelling, emotionally resonant, and likely to break through online.The producer will also support MI's podcast programming, managing the detailed work required to produce consistently excellent shows. This includes coordinating guests, preparing recordings, operating production equipment, editing full episodes, and identifying and packaging the strongest moments for social distribution.This is primarily a behind-the-scenes role for someone who takes pride in making on-camera talent look and sound their best. The ideal candidate will have excellent editorial judgment, visual instincts, and attention to detail; the ability to work quickly without sacrificing quality; strong organizational and project-management skills; comfort collaborating with on-camera personalities and senior policy experts; familiarity with the work of City Journal and the Manhattan Institute; and enthusiasm for MI's mission.ResponsibilitiesProduce and edit original short- and long-form videos for social media, YouTube, podcasts, and other digital platformsManage video projects from initial concept through recording, postproduction, and publicationProduce MI podcasts, including guest coordination, recording, editing, quality control, and distributionIdentify compelling moments from interviews, podcasts, events, and media appearances and turn them into highly shareable clipsDevelop visual treatments, hooks, pacing, captions, graphics, sound design, and other elements that help content capture attentionPrepare studios and field-production setups, including cameras, lighting, microphones, and recording softwareWork closely with MI scholars, correspondents, and communications staff to translate complex ideas into clear and engaging contentTrack emerging formats, platform conventions, editing styles, and distribution strategiesMaintain an efficient production calendar and turn around high-quality work on tight deadlinesHelp establish a consistent and recognizable visual identity for MI's video and podcast programmingQualificationsDemonstrated experience producing and editing professional video contentAdvanced proficiency with tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, After Effects, CapCut, or comparable softwareExperience producing podcasts or other interview-based programmingStrong working knowledge of cameras, lighting, audio, studio production, and remote-recording technologyA sophisticated understanding of what makes content perform on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, X, and other platformsApplication requirementsApplications must include a portfolio or reel demonstrating video-production and editing work.
