Senior Reinsurance Underwriter – Property TreatyAs a Senior Reinsurance Underwriter for Property Treaty, you will, under direction of the Manager and in accordance with established procedures and underwriting authority: underwrite and maintain/service profitable new and renewal business exercising self-supported judgment based on comprehensive analysis of reinsurance submissions including terms, conditions and coverage intent; increase our visibility and market share in the Property Treaty arena via targeted marketing activities; be dedicated to maximizing the efficiency of the group and providing quality service to internal and external customers.What you'll be doingWhat will your essential responsibilities include?Underwriting:Underwrite terms and conditions of new and renewal accounts by collecting, reviewing, and analyzing account information in conjunction with proper risk assessment in line with risk appetiteGain proficiency with our internal pricing and modeling tools in order to establish appropriate pricing options on accounts in various structures and lines of businessNegotiate competently with brokers and clients, providing constructive feedback and offering alternative risk solutions when neededMake presentations to senior management on larger accounts outside of underwriting authority with ability to articulate and support thought processes in a clear, cohesive and succinct mannerExecute strategic underwriting plans aligned with premium and profitability objectives and service excellenceEffectively communicate with Underwriting, Actuarial, Legal, Accounting and Underwriting Service Departments on issues that involve pricing, contract wording, premium and loss bookings as well as claims to ensure profitability of accounts and compliance with corporate guidelinesDevelop, maintain and service a profitable book of business; participate in customer account renewal meetings and underwrite audits; and provide top quality customer service to brokers and cedants.Business Development:Work closely with the Manager in the execution of strategy and business development activities including but not limited to: identification of key brokers and markets; planning and participation in marketing activities/events with clients and brokers as well as attending targeted industry conventions; completion and implementation of action plans from marketing activities; accompany other Property Treaty underwriters on broker/client visits as needed; and play an important role in the growth and visibility of the Team in the Property Treaty space.Collaboration:Work effectively in a team setting; contribute to the creation and sustenance of a high-performance team by embracing and understanding department and business unit goalsRecognize broader relationships on accounts within reinsurance outside of US Property Treaty when assessing risks and communicating accordingly and take initiative on cross selling opportunities with other departments and lines of businessContribute to and implement actions to improve performance and efficiencyActively network with industry peers to keep current on market dynamicsOther Responsibilities:Perform other related duties including general administration of department affairsComplete special projects and other functions, as requiredYou will report directly to the Head of Property Treaty.What you will BRING:We're looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:Bachelor of Art or Bachelor of Science degree in Business, Management, Finance or related field from an accredited college/universityExtensive relevant experience as an underwriter, treaty or facultative reinsurance preferredProfessional qualifications (ARe, CPCU, etc.) preferredExcellent understanding of reinsurance markets, placement structures and underwriting approachesExperience and established relationships with both large and boutique reinsurance brokers/broking firms as well as having well developed network of ceding company contacts, a plusSignificant experience in the rating and analysis of pro rata and excess loss businessProven knowledge of reinsurance contracts and associated market practicesMath aptitude and strong PC skillsIn depth knowledge and understanding of external rating and exposure models including but not limited to RMS and AIRCore competencies: Underwriter must be detail oriented and accurate; have demonstrated organizational skills and flexibility; have excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as interpersonal skills; ability to present to customers and clients in a confident and effective manner; have the ability to apply creative, analytical and mathematical skills to problem-solving; have the ability to work without supervision and take initiative without being prompted; have excellent customer focus, responsiveness and multi-tasking abilities;
