Other job-related duties will be assigned. The substitute custodian will perform all duties of the position within the scope of Columbia School District policies and procedures. Complete Safe Schools Web Based Training within thirty (30) days of hire and yearly thereafter. Must pass a background check, which includes employee paid fingerprinting. Must be available M-F, primarily swing shift. Skills commensurate with job requirements as evidenced by some or all of the following: passing basic skills test based on the requirements of the position employment history in similar position(s) references indicating satisfactory skills and abilities in similar position successful completion of training or certification programs related to position. (This could include, but is not limited to, one of the following: High School Diploma, GED, AA, BA, etc.) Qualifications Preferred Has knowledge of and demonstrate general custodial skills. Strong work ethic and a self-starting ability. Read and write in English, and follow directions/instructions and perform basic math calculations. Work cooperatively as a member of the custodial team to accomplish specific goals. Present a positive image for the school district and willing to follow District policies and procedures. Provide positive evaluations and recommendations that support character and work ethic. Demonstrate excellent attendance, punctuality, dependability, self-disciplined, and a self-starter. Organize time well; initiate work. Job Responsibilities Accomplish all tasks in a professional manner. Secure building. Conduct regular inspections of the facility and report needed repairs on work order forms. Set up for special programs. Perform general labor as needed: i.e. moving equipment, desks, tables, etc. Perform related duties as assigned by principal. Work cooperatively with students, teachers and administrators. Possess basic operational knowledge of and ability to operate custodial equipment and the heating/cooling systems. Use power equipment and hand tools such as shovel, broom, mop, squeegee, burnish, and vacuum required for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, wall, carpets and furniture. Clean and sanitize toilets, shower rooms and fixtures. Empty wastebaskets and trash containers. Dust furniture and light fixtures; clean chalkboards and erasers. Sweep, mop and polish floors. Wash windows. Replace light bulbs, tissue and other restroom supplies. Clean sidewalks and keep driveway litter free, perform snow and ice removal. Perform all other related duties as assigned by supervisor pertaining to job classification. Performs all duties of the position within the scope of Columbia School District policies and procedures, including regular attendance and punctuality. General Requirements Language Skills: Ability to read, product labels, and procedures. Ability to write effectively, and use e-mail correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions. Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimal numbers. Ability to calculate percentages, proportions, area, circumference, and volume. Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions. Ability to interpret variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Physical Demands Mobility: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is sometimes required to sit, frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Employee will frequently use ladders while performing daily responsibilities. Senses: The employee is often required to listen to slight variations in pitch, amplitude, and frequency. The employee must be able to communicate effectively in person, over the telephone, and by using the district radio communications system. The employee is occasionally required to taste or smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Lifting: The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 35 pounds; frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; occasionally lift and/or move over 100 pounds. Work Environment Physical Hazards: While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts; in high, precarious places; in outside weather conditions; and may be exposed to risk of electrical shock. The employee will occasionally be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but may on occasion be loud and require hearing protection.
