About the Role
The Company is seeking a Chief Development Officer (CDO) to lead its fundraising efforts and strategic growth. The CDO will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive fundraising strategy that includes major gifts, corporate partnerships, foundation relations, and various giving programs. This role requires a deep commitment to the mission of the organization, which is to provide access to higher education for all deserving students. The successful candidate will work closely with the CEO, Board of Directors, and staff to ensure the long-term sustainability of the organization and to enhance its community impact. Key responsibilities include stewarding major and principal gift relationships, identifying new philanthropic opportunities, and fostering a culture of philanthropy both within the organization and the community. Candidates for the CDO position should have a minimum of 7-10 years' of fundraising experience at a leadership level, with a proven track record of securing six- and seven-figure philanthropic gifts. A bachelor's degree is required, and an advanced degree or CFRE certification is desirable. The ideal candidate will have a background in scholarship organizations, higher education, or youth-serving nonprofits, and experience in diverse fundraising operations. Strong communication, storytelling, and relationship-building skills are essential, as is the ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders, including donors, board members, and community leaders. The CDO will also be responsible for managing a team, so a minimum of 5 years' of supervisory experience and a demonstrated ability to build and mentor high-performing teams are necessary.
