Field Supervisor- Neighborhood Code ComplianceHours: 7:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. or 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.; schedule may vary Includes shared 24-hour emergency on-call responsibilitiesCan you balance firm enforcement with fairness, professionalism and respect? We're looking for a steady, solutions-focused leader who can coach a team and make sound decisions in the field.What You'll DoLead and support Code Compliance Officers while handling complex property maintenance and abandoned-vehicle cases. This role combines team leadership, field inspections and case oversight to help maintain safe, healthy neighborhoods throughout Fort Wayne.Key ResponsibilitiesConduct residential and commercial inspections, provide second opinions and investigate unusual or difficult casesInitiate, monitor and review housing cases, including emergency orders, cost-recovery forms, work-plan extensions and litigation preparationPerform quality-control reviews to ensure cases are accurate, complete and handled consistentlyCoordinate with contractors, City departments and outside agencies to resolve property concerns and complete assigned workRespond to emergency calls, attend neighborhood meetings, assist with department programs and help establish procedures and work standardsSupervisory ResponsibilitiesOversee daily team workflow, field assignments and coverage for absent officersCoach, counsel, mentor and train Code Compliance OfficersAssist with recruiting, interviewing and hiring new employeesProvide constructive and timely performance evaluations with manager approvalWhat You Bring – Education & ExperienceBachelor's degree from an accredited college or universityOne to two years of related experience or trainingAn equivalent combination of education and experience may be consideredStrong leadership, communication, organization and problem-solving skillsAbility to work professionally with residents, contractors, attorneys, public officials and community organizationsWillingness to perform inspections in basements, crawl spaces, attics and other challenging environmentsAbility to work approximately 60% in the field and occasionally lift up to 20 pounds  Required Certifications & CredentialsProperty Maintenance and Housing Inspector certification required within six months of employmentPolice Commission required to enter private property while performing assigned dutiesValid Indiana driver's license required when operating a City vehicleTechnical Skills & KnowledgeAbility to read and apply policies, regulations, laws and technical instructionsStrong written documentation, case-management and public-presentation skillsAbility to define problems, gather facts and make sound, defensible decisionsAbility to respond professionally to questions and complaints from residents, businesses and regulatory agenciesProficiency in English; Spanish or Burmese language skills are a plusWhy Work for the City of Fort WayneThis is an opportunity to lead a team whose work has a visible impact on Fort Wayne neighborhoods.
