Transmission Line Section Manager

Responsibilities Develop a partnership with the project manager, who is responsible for scope, schedule, budget, and client management, while the Transmission Line Section Manager is responsible for technical execution of the project. Develop and implement a project execution plan for the technical aspect of projects. Assign project tasks and provide technical guidance to project team members. Participate in Client Development Planning and Execution, responsible for growing the Transmission practice through business development and strengthening client relationships. Support the technical aspect of scope, schedule, and budget, including proposal development, work‑breakdown structure development and implementation, progress assessment, risk assessment/mitigation, change management, and schedule management. Coordinate and/or perform quality checks and reviews for all project deliverables per the HDR Quality Management Systems (QMS) requirements, processes, and procedures to deliver a world‑class quality product to the client; also perform quality checks and/or reviews of projects from other teams as needed. Work independently, and may direct, mentor, train, and/or supervise one or more Project Engineers, EITs, or CADD/Designers. Lead multiple projects concurrently, utilizing teams in different locations. Work with senior engineers and technical leaders to identify and develop specific technical expertise and attend training and seminars focused on further development and understanding of complex concepts related to their discipline. Assist with developing technical papers and/or presentations that showcase HDR’s technical capabilities at industry conferences or other events. Participate in project reviews as needed. Preferred Qualifications BS degree in Engineering PE license 10+ years of technical transmission line experience up to 500 kV, including at a minimum: conceptual knowledge of routing, environmental permitting, right‑of‑way acquisition, PLS‑CADD modeling, steel and wood structure design, foundation design, material procurement, specifications, and construction support Experience in distribution line design and/or steel lattice tower modeling and design (a plus) Strong track record of growing a Transmission practice and developing client relationships Track record of working cooperatively with diverse teams, regional, department, technical managers and project staff Experience using industry‑standard design software required Proficiency with Microsoft Office and conferencing platforms (Zoom, WebEx, Teams, etc.) Self‑starter with strong written and verbal communication skills (preferred) Strong conceptual, organizational, problem‑solving, and collaboration skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team Previous consulting firm experience desiredCommitment to being an active participant of our employee‑owned culture (a must) Some travel may be required Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience A minimum of 10 years of experience Professional registration, license or certification may be required based on role Strong communication and listening skills Ability to handle multiple assignments Good leadership and organizational skills Commitment to being an active participant of our employee‑owned culture (a must) Benefits: Provides a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, short and long‑term disability, life insurance, an employee assistance program, paid time away, parental leave, paid holidays, a retirement savings plan with employer match, employee referral bonus, and tuition reimbursement.
