About the Facility Pinon Health Center (Indian Health Service)
Pinon Health Center is part of the Chinle Service Unit within the Indian Health Service (IHS) and is located in the heart of the Navajo Reservation in northern Arizona. The center provides comprehensive outpatient care to approximately 11,000 patients the majority of whom are Navajo, including many traditional Navajo who still speak the language. A collegial group of providers offer services in primary care, women's health, counseling, dental, dietary and community nutrition, health promotions, lab, x-ray, native medicine, optometry, pharmacy, physical therapy, speech therapy, podiatry, and public health nursing. The facility operates Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM 5:00 PM.

Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) - Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality, culturally competent primary care services to infants, children, and adolescents within the Pinon Health Center service area.
- Perform comprehensive pediatric health assessments, including physical exams, developmental screenings, and behavioral evaluations.
- Diagnose and manage acute illnesses, injuries, and chronic pediatric conditions.
- Prescribe medications, immunizations, and therapeutic interventions in accordance with scope of practice and clinical protocols.
- Monitor and ensure pediatric compliance with IHS immunization schedules and well-child visit standards.
- Provide anticipatory guidance and health education to patients and families regarding nutrition, growth, safety, disease prevention, and child development.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, behavioral health clinicians, case managers, and community health staff to ensure coordinated, holistic care.
- Document all clinical encounters accurately and in a timely manner within the electronic health record (EHR).
- Refer patients to appropriate specialists or services as needed and follow up on care plans.
- Participate in community health outreach and public health nursing initiatives serving the Navajo population.
Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) - Requirements
- Master's or Doctoral degree in Nursing (MSN or DNP) from an accredited Pediatric Nurse Practitioner program.
- Certification as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) through a nationally recognized certifying body (e.g., PNCB CPNP-PC or CPNP-AC, or ANCC PPCNP-BC).
- Possess a current, valid, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in any State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a Territory of the United States.
- Current DEA registration with authority to prescribe Schedule IIV substances.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in pediatric primary care preferred.
- Experience working with Native American or underserved pediatric populations is highly desirable.
- Must pass background checks for federal facility access.
- Valid driver's license required.
