Salary Range: $6,959.64 - $10,041.00 monthly
The Chief Radiologic Technologist oversees all aspects of Diagnostic Imaging, from strategic planning and budgeting to staffing and technology implementation. This role integrates clinical services with organizational goals while ensuring strict compliance with regulatory standards. Key responsibilities include exercising independent judgment in personnel management, fostering a culture of professional growth, and optimizing departmental performance.
Essential Functions
- Supervises diagnostic imaging personnel, overseeing recruitment, hiring, orientation, professional development, and performance evaluations. Optimizes staffing levels to meet departmental productivity targets and clinical standards.
- Collaborates with the executive leadership team on strategic planning to drive departmental and organizational growth. Manages the operational direction of all radiology modalities, including Nuclear Medicine, MRI, X-ray, CT, Ultrasound, and Mammography:
- CT: Protocol governance, contrast safety, radiation dose monitoring, and personnel competency requirements; ensure documentation and QC practices meet applicable standards
- MRI: MRI safety program oversight (screening, zoning/access control, ferromagnetic safety practices, emergency procedures), staff training, and competency verification
- X-ray / Radiography: Equipment QC, radiation safety practices, and technologist licensing/competency compliance
- Nuclear Medicine: Radiopharmaceutical handling processes, safety procedures, staff competency, and related documentation; coordinate with physicians and safety leadership as applicable
- Ultrasound: Quality and competency standards, including credentialing/registry expectations (where required by organizational or payer standards) and image quality programs
- Lead corrective action planning for identified findings and ensure sustainable closure with documented evidence
- Coordinates multi-site operations by maintaining productivity levels and developing performance, safety, and regulatory quality standards.
- Directs fiscal management, including forecasting, operating performance monitoring, and oversight of salary, operational, and capital budgets. Partners with physicians and hospital departments to enhance customer satisfaction while ensuring compliance with current practice standards.
- Monitors patient satisfaction and ensures imaging services adhere to safety, risk management, and federal/state accreditation regulations. Maintains patient records in strict accordance with HIPAA and confidentiality guidelines.
- Identifies and implements strategic initiatives to reduce operational costs and improve service quality.
- Facilitates the seamless transition of all Imaging Services into new Outpatient and Inpatient facilities.
- Sustains consistent service levels and operational continuity during periods of construction and facility transition.
- Oversees radiology IT systems and ensures the maintenance and functionality of all equipment. Establishes, communicates, and monitors departmental policies regarding radiation safety and regulatory compliance.
- Evaluates and recommends the acquisition of emerging technologies based on market developments and competitive healthcare trends.
- Develops and executes a comprehensive Equipment Plan for the procurement, maintenance, and strategic replacement of imaging assets.
- Ensures strict adherence to state and federal safety and quality assurance rules, maintaining compliance with TJC (JCAHO), NRC, CDPH, CMS, ACR, and other local agencies.
- Maintains sustained readiness for all accreditation standards (e.g., ACR, MQSA, or modality-specific programs) based on organizational and payer requirements.
- Patient Safety: Promotes an organizational culture of safety, ensuring consistent implementation of guidelines from TJC (JCAHO), National Quality Forum, and Leapfrog.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications
The Chief Radiologic Technologist provides strategic leadership and operational oversight to ensure the efficient functioning of the diagnostic imaging department. Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Required
- Master's Degree: Preferred
- Five years' diagnostic imaging experience: Preferred
- Five years' leadership experience in a full service imaging department in an acute care medical center: Preferred
Certificates/Licenses/Clearances
- Live Scan and Health Screening are required.
- California Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT) Certificate (California) Required
- American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Certificate - Radiography certification from American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
- OR Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate from American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers
- OR Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certificate from Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board
- Additional:
- Radiologic technologist fluoroscopy permit Required
- BCLS certificate from American Heart Association or American Red Cross Required
- Accredited Radiologic Technologist Program graduate Required
- Advanced credentials / certifications (Computed Tomography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging) Preferred

- Proficiency in using radiology software and electronic medical record systems to manage patient information and radiology reports.
