The MedicalAssistant provides essential clinical support in a pediatric care environmentto assist physicians, mid-level practitioners, and the healthcare team indelivering high-quality, age-appropriate patient care. The role supports awelcoming environment for children and families, works collaboratively in ateam setting, and may involve cross-training to positions such as receptionistor other back-office roles at the request of the employer. Work in the Chelseaand Sylacauga offices as needed.

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
• Preferred: Six (6) months' related experience and/or training in a medical or pediatric setting.
• Preferred: Proficient in medical terminology, procedures, and diagnoses.
• Preferred: Successful completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) program
• Current CPR certification.
• Willing to attend continuing education courses at the request of the employer.

• Knowledge of medical terminology, pediatric procedures, immunizations, and basic diagnostic testing.
• Proficiency in operating medical equipment (e.g., for vital signs or other point-of-care tests) and performing basic lab tasks.
• Ability to administer injections and handle specimens safely.
• Commitment to confidentiality, privacy protocols, and HIPAA compliance.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment and adapt to cross-training.

Dutiesand Responsibilities

• Greets patients and families, escorts them to examination rooms, and helps make them comfortable.
• Interviews patients/parents to obtain medical history, allergies, and current concerns; measures and records vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate, O2 saturation, height, weight) accurately.
• Collects and documents pertinent medical data in the patient's chart/EMR.
• Performs in-house lab tests, collects specimens (e.g., capillary/venous blood, other samples), prepares specimens for testing or send-out, and sets up lab equipment as needed.
• Administers immunizations and ordered medications under supervision/direction.
• Enters vaccines into the state system daily; reviews and ensures accurate vaccine status for next-day scheduled patients.
• Assists physicians or mid-level practitioners during examinations, treatments, and minor procedures
• Prepares, cleans, disinfects, and restocks examination rooms, equipment, and supplies between patients; takes out trash as needed, and stocks lab areas.
• Sterilizes instruments, disposes of contaminated supplies.
• Operates and maintains medical equipment; alerts supervisor to malfunctions or supply needs.
• Attends scheduled department staff and clinical meetings.
• Exercises utmost confidentiality, privacy protocols, and adherence to clinic policies, HIPAA requirements, quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.

PhysicalDemands

• Frequent lifting and carrying of items weighing up to 30 lbs. unassisted, including assisting patients (e.g., children) with positioning or transfers as required.
• Regularly exposed to risk of bloodborne pathogens and unpleasant elements (e.g., bodily fluids, odors).
• Ability to stand, walk, and move actively for extended periods in a clinical setting.

Hours

Fulltime: Monday-Friday 7:55am-5:00pm. Seasonal Saturday clinic hours:8:55am-12:00pm (Chelsea clinic only).
