Facilities Maintenance Technician I

Position Summary Facility Maintenance Technician I, II, or III. Only one vacancy exists and will be filled at the appropriate classification level based on the successful candidate’s qualifications, experience, and ability to meet the minimum requirements of the position. Essential Functions Perform a variety of maintenance and repair duties involving heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), minor electrical work (limited to 120V systems or less), minor drywall repairs, carpentry, painting, concrete and masonry work. Perform minor plumbing maintenance such as replacement or repair of faucets and fixtures, unclogging drains, trenching and laying new lines, replacement of drain pipes and similar systems. Perform routine safety checks of building assets. Perform janitorial duties such as cleaning, sweeping and mopping. Inventory, inspect and clean tools, supplies, and shop equipment. Inspect buildings and related systems to determine condition and identify repair and replacement needs. Remove, reconfigure, assemble or install office furnishings and appliances such as wall panels, desks and tables, storage bins, lighting and file cabinets. Replace filters and clean equipment. Drive service vehicle between facility locations. Record work orders in the Town’s Operations Management System (OMS). Assist higher level technicians. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of routine facilities maintenance, repair tasks. Comply with all Town and OSHA safety standards. Knowledge of, or ability to learn, Town and Department policies, procedures and safety practices. Use of hand and power tools and testing equipment. Maintain accurate maintenance records, take notes and make sketches. Skilled in inspections, service, and repair. Ability to find and utilize technical information to effect repairs. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written communication. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or GED. One (1) year experience in facilities maintenance including plumbing, painting, carpentry, electrical, HVAC or closely related work. Must possess a valid Class D Arizona driver license upon the first day of employment. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Required Training or Certification Ability to obtain within 6 months of hire: Fall Prevention MEWP (Mobile Elevated Work Platform) Powered Industrial Truck (Forklift) OSHA 10 General Industry NFPA 70E OSHA Arc Flash Safety Training Ladder Safety training Machine Guarding PPE Scaffolding Competent Person – Excavation, Trenching and Soil Mechanics Confine Space Entry Fire Prevention Hot Work Lockout Tagout Hand/power tool safety HAZCOM First Aid/CPR/AED CJIS Safety & Awareness Visible Opacity (Smoke School) Environmental Factors and Working Conditions Exposure to noise, dust, fumes, gases, and chemicals related to facility maintenance. Work is performed primarily in, on, and around facility structures. Field or outside work may expose employees to the following: Ambient weather and temperature conditions. Heights Various work surfaces that may be unimproved, slippery, uneven, and rough. Must be willing to work alternate shift arrangements as required per Town’s “on call” procedures. Participate in and complete professional development training as assigned. Work may be performed at various locations. Regular daily attendance is an essential function for this position. Must be willing to work overtime as required. Physical Requirements Lift and carry 40 pounds. Stand, walk, bend, kneel, crawl. Lay on side, back, or stomach. Work overhead. Special Requirements Must pass an Arizona Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) background check and screening by the Oro Valley Police Department.
